Uni-loc Joint: Friend or Foe?

I'm having a cue built for me.
Should I go with what the cue maker provides as standard (5/16 14 piloted) or ask for a uni-loc joint?
I have a Lucasi and like the Uni-loc joint. It's convenient, but I want whichever is going to most benefit the performance of the cue.

Thanx! -Z-

Hi Z:
Every joint screw and joint done properly plays well. It's the properly part that seems to confuse some people. That's the Cue makers job. Just sayin.

The pin has very little if any direct influence on 'performance'.
In a non-steel jointed cue, the pin can and will be influential in defining the 'hit'.
ie; G-10 vs SS. Pitch also matters. Ask yourself; $6K cue & 18 tpi, why ?
A steel jointed cue's hit will not be affected by pin choice.
That mass of 1.25 oz of dead steel has already defined it.
Nothing remotely resembling purity of resonance will traverse that bridge.

But your question was specific to performance. My answer is my opening sentence.
Rest assured in knowing that you can't get it wrong because it really doesn't matter.

Disclaimer (just because): Obviously, everything I write is totally may opinion.
After all, who else's opinion did you expect it to be ? There are those that do share it though.
I openly welcome challenge to my opinions to further discussion and understanding.
The learning process can go both ways.
Reasonable, rational and coherent counter-opinions add to an intelligent conversation.
Just don't expect me to give credence to stupidity.

Never heard is explained like that but looking back I have experienced just what you said.

The best hit I have made is with a flat faced joint and a G10 pin.............. very crisp
