I just bought a 1991 Richard Black pretty cheap and it has a universal smart shaft....I played with the cue for a cpl hrs and I really dont like the shaft...I am gonna play with it some more tonight to see if I can overcome the dislike but if I cant my shaft will be up for sale.
Personally, I like the Smartshaft. I feel like it offers the low-deflection qualities of the other aftermarket shafts without compromising on weight, which can throw off the original weight balance of a cue by a good deal.
I like mine, but prefer my 30-year old Schon shaft and my Webb shafts. So if anybody wants a USS with a Schon-style adapter, PM me. $100 + actual shipping cost. Verified PayPal only.
Wow... This topic Kinda fell off with the product.....
I have the UN-30 Cue with the / LS Shaft. I've played with it since about 3 months after they released the Universal Cues.. Mine is #7 of 10 Inagural editions.. (to give you an idea of time spent playing with it) I do like it a lot, I do notice a difference with it vrs every other cue I play with. I feel it does improve my low percentage shots.
I bought one when it first came out----I put it on my Richard Black and had an adaptor to put it on a Rick Howard. It is a neat product and I did like it. The shaft had some weight to it. See you next time around.
My buddy had his schon refinished---it was my first "real" cue. I got it from Paul Span a long time ago. You should check it out next time you are in town. It is probably circa 1993 or 1994
