If it's in good condition and cheap, give it a whirl. Another possibility would be from Adam Cue. It's a very common pattern based on classic lines established by the likes of Balabushka, Rambow, and Szamboti. Good luck.
Sorry but Gus would have thrown away that maple forearm.
It has a skewed banana grain runout near the nose.
I wouldn't even use that as buttsleeve tenon.
Much less Gus using it as a forearm.

For me the give-away is that National made a cue that looked almost identical to this cue. The veneer colors are another unusual combination that National used. I live in Cincinnati where National's home was and have worked on hundreds of National cues over the last 30 years. I even sold a bunch of them at my pool room back in the 80's. It's a National!
National taiwan cues
Are they worth anything? I passed on one the other day, but it was a full splice and had nice inlays. Didnt know of I missed something I should have bought. It looks similar to that cue, but with more notched diamonds and inlayed dots as well.

Most people would tell you they are junk. A lot of them are. I've seen some that were not too bad as far as players go but the attention to detail is bad on the inlays. I've seen a few that had very nice veneers but I have to assume they got lucky on those as most are not so good. A lot of them have rebar glued inside them as weights and they are glued with some kind of hide glue or something that can break down over time. If you find a good one that plays well and isn't horrible as far as the inlays, and you can get it cheap, it might be worth buying but it's never going to be a valuable cue, just functional. Also the steel joints tend to loosen up but can be epoxied back easily enough. They use the cheapest adhesives they can get. When I first got into cuemaking, I bought about 300 of them that were returns or seconds. I used the steel joints for some of my cues and rewrapped some of them and sold them cheap to bangers at my pool room. I got them for about a dollar apiece so I couldn't really go wrong. They gave me some valuable experience in repairs, wrapping and a bunch of tomato stakes later on as I weeded out the decent repairable ones.
