Schmelke.

Nice one.

I used to have links to their catalog archives but they took down the pages and i can't find the images on my hard drive.

EDIT: PM me if it's for sale. Been looking for an old Schmelke. Don't have one. That one is cool.

That had to have been done on a wood lathe or something. Yikes.

That's a schmelke joint, but I don't think they did it. I think whoever converted this, went a little too crazy with the inlaid dots.

Typical Schmelke joint
Typical Schmelke wrap
Typical Schmelke bumper
Typical Schmelke dot inlays

You really think it's not Schmelke?

The work looks positively emblematic of Schmelke to me.

Why do you suspect a wood lathe? If we saw the marks under the bumper perhaps we could say a wood lathe was used. What evidence can you see of a wood lathe in these pics?

I agree it's gawdy as heck, but Schmelke gawdy. LOL!

I am not being critical, I am interested in what you have to say. I do see it quite differently.

I found a folder on my computer with old Schmelke catalog scans. Problem is they are very small, just the thumbnails. I can't find the full size scans.

I don't see that exact model (as best as I can tell at this size), but there are several similar models.

Schmelke made their own version of Titlist blanks. This isn't a Titlist conversion. Schmelke made the blank and used it. That's my take on it. They didn't make a Brunswick Personal Cue (the name of the Titlist and Hoppe cues became "Personal Cue" at the time that Schmelke got the contract for the blanks), sell it to Brunswick, then buy it back and convert it.

That's where I am at on it.

I concede, it is a Schmelke. Here's a thread I found with a virtually identical cue. There is evidence to suggest it's not a titlist though.

I first thought it was a home brew because of the wrap and the way the the buttsleeve flares up. I guess schemlke got their shit together along the way, since the quality has gone way up. If they were using a taper machine setup, would it be uniform the whole way through? It also looks like there is a secondary slice into the darker points... What a strange cue.

There is indeed another splice right into the Titlist-looking points.

It is a strange cue as you say. Schmelke built a lot of strange cues.

I don't see the butt taper issue as a fault or flaw though. Look at a Sailor cue. I see the bulbous butt sleeve on this cue as a feature. It is an odd feature, no doubt.

And one can build a cue on a metal lathe without using a taper bar.

In fact, at taper need not be straight when using a taper bar.

SouthWest cues do not have a straight taper in the butt and I am confident they don't use a wood lathe.

Takes a special taste to want such a cue. I find shooting with old cues of all sorts to be interesting. It's fun to compare and contrast their playing characteristics.

I don't think anybody would want to seriously use this cue to try to win games though.

Most cue people will see it as a mere oddity, like a circus side show.

For me though, it is right up my alley.

But then again, I have a nice collection of Cobra cues and Mizerak cues.:p;):embarrassed2::D

Si I am odd myself. :D

You're the SPCA for cues Chopdoc :)

You mean I have a weakness for ugly mutts. LOL! Maybe...:embarrassed2:

:thumbup::thumbup:

EDIT:
Looks like somebody might have tried polishing that brass joint. That's a no-no in my book. Decreases value.

Maybe there is some kind of government grant I can get if I buy it? You know...for my disability....

catalog

The only similar cue I found was from their 1970 catalog. That model was the D50.

New it was a Schmelke when I first saw it... Used to play with the exact cue(s) at my friends house when we were kids...

These things really bring back memories.

And that was an expensive cue at the time.
