Unreal stroke shots

I am sure most of us have seen a shot or two that tests a person's stroke, the type of shot that takes a hugely powerful stroke. Here is one I have seen one of the top players in Calgary manage that I have never been able to stroke on a 4 1/2 X 9 and make. It takes a tremendous amount of stroke and there is likely not 5 people in the city that can make that shot I would say with any regularity at all.

)END

I dont quite know how to paste the actual picture, if anyone else does by all means that would be cool.

Any other shots you have seen that few people in the world have the stroke to pull off?

thats definitely a hell of a shot............fast cloth would help too...........cue ball looks like it has to travel almost 20 feet after it leaves the object ball.................i'm gonna have to try this one today.

See if you know anyone that can shoot a spot shot from behind the headstring and draw the cueball past the side pocket like this:

START(

)END

The closest I came was scratching in the side.

Edwin Montal could shoot that for sure, he is awesome at digging those bottom shots with massive siding. Bernie Mikkelsen (the only person I have EVER seen make the top shot) I am sure could make it as well. I myself dont have a table with me atm but I will make sure to try that shot next time I go out and shoot pool. Both of those guys have quite unusual strokes with a massive amount of spin potential.

Hey does that guy Bernie Mikkelsen go by the nickname "Canadian Bernie" or something like that? If so I remember him coming down to So Cal a few years ago and beating a strong player out here for a few hundred.

That is probably him, really tall. He now builds cues that hit the ball REALLY well. Most of the top players in Calgary shoot with them now.

> Several people have told me they have personally seen Larry Nevel make the shot described in the first post, but from frozen to the end rail, like this:

> I've only tried this shot on a 9 footer 5-6 times, and can get it to hit all 3 rails, but not with enough juice to pocket the hanger, but can do it pretty reliably on a fast 8 footer or bar table. Drawing the spot shot back past the side pocket is impossible on most of the tables I see regularly, other than a bar table with fresh cloth and balls. Tommy D.

All I see is garbage (characters)....How do I see the shot???

that nevel shot looks great.

as for the shot posted by last two...i've actually seen better. i saw strickland cut a shot to the corner that was so steep, the cb took a beeline straight to the rail(it did not bend to the rail, as in last two's example),,,the cb then came off the and bent back downtable.

apparantly, a few people have told me of a shot that deuel made that was similiar except that the cb was near a corner pocket and HE HAD TO JACK UP ON THE CB.

those 3 rail shots are done on a daily basis by 3 cushion players. jeanette lee was playing sang lee, and she came up to a shot where she wanted to go 3 rails and hit two ob's laying next to each other. she didn't know what spot to hit on the first cushion,,,,,,,and sang lee proceeded to demonstrate the execution of that shot within an area roughly FIVE DIAMONDS wide off the first rail.

START(%AV5G7%CT7J0%Pi9E7%Wa5Z8%XV0Z5%YI5Z7%ZU6Z6
)END don't hold me to this one as i did not see it and only vaguely remember the layout as it was told to me. but the arrowed area along the bottom rail was the area within which the shot could be aimed and the billiard completed.

3 cushion tables are a different beast, I have seen people stroke a masses shot and have the cueball bounce off the exact same rail well over five times never loosing the spin. That is simply not possible on a normal 9-ball table along with most other super spin shots those 3 cushion players manage on a heated table with cloth akin to pam cooking spray.

well i was going to say the same thing but, you beat me to it...........the heat and the cloth make things TOTALLY different.

Try these on for size (9' tables of course ;))

1) Cue ball is 1/4 - 1/8 inch from object ball:
START( %AB8B4%BC1B5%CB7B8%DB9B9%EB9B5*%FB6B7%GC0B9%Hq6N7%Ir2Z5%JC0B9 %KB3B4%LC0B6%MC0C1%NB4B3%OC1C1*%Pq6P3%WD3Q3%XR6[1%YP9D5%ZC2O9 %[p1Y5%\R0D1%]q8D7%^q3M8%eB8b6*%_T0Z6%`d0P7%ap7O4 )END

2) Cue ball is 1 chalk from rail (straight in shot and no side rail contact):
START( %AB8B4%BC1B5%CB7B8%DB9B9%EB9B5*%FB6B7%GC0B9%HH7D7%Ir5K8%JC0B9 %KB3B4%LC0B6%MC0C1%NB4B3%OC1C1*%Pr3F5%WC9D2%XG5D6%]J3E2%^q1F7 %eB8b6%_r3G8%`d3F7%aI6E1 )END

My favorite all time shot...

Now keep in mind, I didn't do this...a buddy of mine did, his name is Dan "Fly boy" McKinney, and I nicknamed him "Fly boy"...just to mess with him. Super nice guy and played a pretty darn sporty game of pool. He used to play a lot of snooker at Maxi's back in Fulton, MS evidently...and when he was shooting alot at Southern Billiards, I would always watch him play. Anyway here is the shot:

START(
%AC8O3%BZ7\8%C[6\5%D[2A9%E[3\6%F[1\5%G[5\2%H[1\7%I[3\6%J[3B1

%`Y9Q9%au0O6
)END

This shot may not seem that spectacular to many of you...but to me at the time it was unreal. Yes the cue ball is sitting off the table on top of the rail. It took him about 10 tries to make it...but then he made it a couple of times in a row...but the real neat part...it was on an old 5x10 Brunswick Gold Crown snooker table from the 1960s. Man those pockets are tight...and I recall how wonderful that table plays golf.

Anyway, just wanted to share.

That shot can be made. It's difficult but very possible. Use extreme right (perhaps bottom right) and actually hit rail first and spin the cue ball into the object ball. I practice this shot a lot except not on the edge of the rail. I shoot it just off center of the table behind the head string.

Celtic, that's a shot I can do, and yes it takes a powerful stroke. But a shot that I've seen Mike Massey do is one I have far more trouble with.

In the position below, the game is one-pocket and you need both balls to win. Pocketing the one ball (which sits by your pocket) will get you to 7 - 7, but the trick is to get the shape on the two into that same pocket. Below, I show how Massey did it. Left hand draw aiming a little bit into the short rail, and power, power, and more power.

I've found doing that shot on top of the rail is easier for me than shooting from on the cloth. Usually on the second or third try I'll make that shot on a 4.5x9.

This is another variation of the shot above. Of course one pocket does not apply. I can come close but cannot get all the way to the last rail

Wow! Vonn, that one looks super-tough. I'll try it next time I get the chance. The path is a little hard to imagine, but I'm guessing it takes some right english to get the length. Any advice on how to hit this?
