Marlon

Marlon beat me 9 to 1 after I beat Frank. I made some spectacular shots in our match, but he played nearly flawless, it was a real treat. After the match I asked him for his autograph. He was a gentleman on and off the felt. What a great tournament,I didnt cash so now I will be rooting for my houseman, Earl Herring.

Dana, what a GREAT update for the $3,000-added Joss Tour event at Ultimate Billiards! This is EXACTLY the kind of tidbits my inquiring mind enjoys hearing about. :p

Wow, Pete Genovese vs. Marlon Manalo. Pete's got the home-table advantage, being that he owns Ultimate Billiards. If memory serves me correctly, the tables roll fast as lightning, blue cloth that begins with a "G." However, Marlon's accustomed to adjusting to a variety of equipment since he's been shooting on the road, so to speak. Looking forward to hearing about this match-up. :)

Who is the player, Mhet Vergara, that Mike Zuglan is going to play? He looks as if he's having a GREAT tournament this weekend. And he beat Shorty!

If I had to pick a winner at this juncture, I'm leaning towards Mike Zuglan. He's always a good Calcutta bet in any event he plays in. I like his chances to snap this one off!

Depicted below is Keith and World Straight Pool Champion Mike Zuglan, one of New York's finest! Joss Tournament Director Zuglan has kept the Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour running strong for 13 or 14 years now (can't remember). A level playing field with all players treated equal, good payouts, with events taking place on the weekend, Joss tournaments are the best bang for the buck! Good luck to Mike! :)

Hey JAM,

I think Mhet shoots out of Master's in Queens, NY. I spoke with him at Master's during a Tri-State Tour. Really nice guy and also good friends w/ the Filipino Contingent. Good luck to him.

You did play well in that match but I don't think I saw him miss a ball. Seemed to me he wrote alot on that little business card, also I think it was interesteing he wanted one for himself. Maybe you'll see him in your room someday.

Great update, thanks!!!

JAM, that doesn't look like Zuglan in the photo.... I think it resembles Ron Jeremy more than anyone!! :D

I could not agree more.., Marlon appeared to be having a great time and is a pleasure to be around.., it has been my experience over the years that all the Philippino players are gentleman on and off the table .., you never hear them complaining about conditions, equipment, bad rolls or whatever.., they just come and play and they usually play pretty well!

Earl Herring is another gentleman of the game.., he plays really well and his match with Holden Chin today should be a great one.

Where is Earl from and where does he live these days?

I must admit I had to Google-ize "Ron Jeremy" to see who he was! :p

Here's my favorite snapshot of Mike Zuglan taken at the 2002 U.S. Open. Gold star goes out to who can name the player with the red-sleeved coat standing to the right of Keith and the player in the background on the left of Zuglan wearing a white shirt a tan shorts!

Chalmer "Mhet" Vergara has played in several Joss, Blaze and Tri State events over the last year and he plays tough!

He also competed in the recent Big Apple 9-Ball Challenge event.

I asked Al Lapena about this kid and he told me that he can play but lacks confidence. Al feels that Mhet can beat many players in these regional events.., he just needs to play in more of them and gain more confidence.

From what I saw yesterday at Ultimate Billiards, I think we will be hearing more about Chalmer "Mhet" Vergara in the future.

Anyone see the 5 year old kid shooting while waiting for what I believe to be his Dad (Mhet Vergara) playing in the tournament to finish.
He shot pretty good. Best 5 year old I've ever seen. I seen him run 5 balls playing 9ball and make some pretty tough shots and position plays. I noticed a lot of people at the tournament couldn't help but watch this kid shoot around and were very impressed like I was.
