Update On My Comeback

When I started destroying the 6-ball ghost a few weeks ago with an average of 6-2, to 6-3 in more the 50 sets, I thought I had a good chance to beat or come close to beating the 9-ball ghost. Six 3-4 hours a days later the ghost is still kicking my butt bigtime. Probably the ghost averages 6-2, or 6-3 on me. If this were around trick or treat time I'd probably stiff the ones dressed like ghosts on their candy.

I never could get into drills or practice, as I played about 6 hours a day, mostly gambling? I didn't have to practice. Now I find myself missing easy 2-foot cut shots that I never even had to walk around the table to see the angle. Now it seems if I don't walk around the table before shooting I either miss the shot or miss position on the next ball.

Even though I hate practice and drills, and my feet hurt like hell if I walk around the table on every shot, I guess I'll have to start doing it. Johnnyt

I sympathize with you. As we get older, things just get tougher and we have to work twice as hard, lol.

I guess the good lesson here is that as time goes by, we need to reevaluate our pre-shot routine and adjust for the amount of quality time spent at the table.

May I Suggest An Adjustment.....

Hey! I resemble that remark!

Why did you skip the 7 and 8 ball ghost? @ 14 months ago a friend introduced me to the ghost. He bet me I couldn't beat the 5 ball ghost. And he won. I have since worked my way up the ladder, 1 ghost ball at a time, and with much credit to AZ and our fine furry friends here, I knocked out the 9 ball ghost 6 to 1 last week.

Glad to hear you're improving Johnnyt, try gellin' on some magellans, they do help not only the feet, but back pain as well.

Yeah but you are in Florida now.

I tried the barefoot thing for about 10 min. I just have to get good shoes and soak my feet more. When I look at the prices of good shoes or sneakers I hide my credit cards. Johnnyt

I have been thinking about playing the ghost.

When you play the ghost with lesser than 9 balls, do you break all nine and then remove the lower numbered balls until there are six left??

Or, do you only break 6 balls??

I break a regular 6-ball rack in 6-ball, but rack all 9 for the 7 and 8 ghost. If I run to the 7 in 7-ball or the 8 in 8-ball ghost...I'm the winner that game. Johnnyt

As soon as I saw your posts, I remembered this old thread. I must admit that I never did read the whole thing but I recall people bringing up "pool shoes" once in awhile as a means of giving Snapshot9 a hard time.

"I think it is a Good Idea! - Pool Shoes"

Edit to add that the linked thread has one of OHB's (RIP) funniest posts that I had forgotten about until I just started reading it

i break 6, that way I usually have 6 left, with 9 its a bit easier. for me the 6BG is a joke on a table with 4.5" pockets, on your table I still win but its more work for sure.

I've been playing the ghosts all wrong. I thought if you sank the 9-ball, 8-ball, or 7 or 6 on the break...depending what ghost I'm playing, it got spotted and that there were no combos on the money balls. Plus I was playing if I sank one of the money balls along with the lowest on table, the money ball got spotted. I was also racking just the six balls for 6-ball...not all 9, which is easier. No wonder I was beating the 6-ball to death. I'll beat this SOB now in all of the games. Johnnyt

Looking on the net, I guess there really aren't any official rules for the ghost. I've seen about 10 different versions. Johnnyt

I have a hard time playing the ghost. I think I'm doing my best, but fail. My game is 30 to 40% better in actual action even for $1 a game.

I probably play a little better for the $$ too I believe, but $1? When I was bar hustling and someone wanted to play for just a beer I'd almost always ask to play for a beer and $2 to $5 to see if the guy was a gambler. Time was money back then if you know what I mean. If he wouldn't spring to play for a few bucks and there were people watching I'd dump the game and and see if one of the on lookers would bite for the bait. Johnnyt
