Sure makes it hard for those real Open players though. That's why so many don't want to go and why so many try to get into a lower division. I guess if he don't win it, it's only because he got beat by a better Master player in the Open division ;).

See you in a couple of weeks...Ken

Thats the rub Ken, the flipside of that is if a player practices all year, pays for lessons and grows greatly to the point that the director thinks he/she is now a Master, it stiffles improvement and breaks the heart of the person trying to improve. Id rather have the pansies not show up than stiffle improvement. Getting in the Open is risky anyway because of the shorter race. Those that dont come for that reason only hurt us in the long run anyway and if it wasnt that reason, I am guessing they would have another reason. Dont get me wrong I have been beat by many a master player in the open division. Hope to see you at noon ken. :)

Is Intermediate now the same as Level 1 was?

Jeff Livingston

yes sir.

ISPA-Davenport
lvl 2
lvl 1
Masters

IOMA-VNEA-Waterloo
Open
Intermediate
Masters

But just because you are a masters in IOMA doesn't mean you are a master in ISPA or vice-versa. Its all based on previous play or Known Ability(per your league operator)

Thanks much.

I haven't been to state for 6 years, so I'm a little rusty on the terminology.

I see there are only about 200 in the intermediate....that's a much better chance than the open, for sure.

Known ability only applies at ISPA, but it is still abused by some league operators and players.

I'm glad that's one problem I don't have.;)

My biggest concern is getting paid for my roomie's share of the hotel costs.:(

Anybody ever hear of a guy named Zobel, my first match?

And then there are players that get thrown into Masters because they place high one year........ME. When I'm "on" do I play "Master" level?....yes. Do I play like that all of the time?......no. I can't practice day in and day out like some do, unfortunately family, two jobs, a cue repair/sales biz among others will not allow it...that is, if I want to keep my good job that pays good money(not the cue biz) And by the way, I LIKE MONEY! I think that is why I'm a terrible gambler.:banghead:However I do think it is funny that I can normally hang with a majority or the "everyday players"

However I do think being a master player makes me try harder and forces me to bear down more. I have been in masters for two years, and no one has really ran me over yet. I do think they should go by your tournament history rather than your ranking for one year though.

I know there are master players in the open that like to stay there just for easy money every year....which I think is retarded. If you are that hard up, and play pool just to make some loose change at state tournaments, someone in your past has mislead you. YOU CAN MAKE MORE MONEY IN MASTERS, but there is one catch, you have to try harder. Let your ball hang out or take up golf, because there is no real money to be made playing pool. Oh, I have an idea.......get a job?

This ends my thoughts/rant for the day....

You mean your roomies actually pay for their share? Thats a new concept to me. I always thought since I was nice and used my card to secure the room it was all on me. My roomies are usually nice enough to let me know the day we check in that "they dont have money for the room" but, if they win something, they will pay me back........lol

I never heard of Zobel so that a good thing for you. :)

Any Master that pays for league all year only to play in the open and place low enough to not move up, doesnt make money. they are stupid for thinking they do. lol
