Update on the Des Moines pool scene

If I could plan that far ahead I'd be working on Wall Street!!! We are dodging state tournaments and regional events to an extent right now, but I sure hope that by April things will stabilize and we will have something good going on.
If nothing will be planned, you call it and I'll get a tournament made out of it. We all need a reason to play sometimes!

I might be able to make that 10-ball tournament Saturday. I might be in town for the weekend and that would be a nice relaxing evening for me and the wife. Of course, I might get bombarded with questions about the ISPA while there, but that's OK, I'm ready...I can tell anyone "I'll have to get back to you on that one.":grin:

I answered you in the other thread. Hope to meet you in advance of the ISPA tourney. I think several people are wanting this tourney to turn out well so I think attendance may be on par with what we are normally able to turn out for these Saturday events.
I'm guessing everyone is sleeping or something, is it spring break and I didn't get the memo???

Oh well if it's quiet as a church here I will keep harassing the Gabe/Sylver bettors, I am having fun at that.
10-Ball still going down on Saturday, tough set of rules to play by and I think the gaps and holes in folks games are going to be put on front street. Should be a fun and frustrating time.
So we had a pretty fun ring game going on for a few hours last night. We played $2/$2 10-Ball. For most of the game it was Jody, Jason Chance, Jon Brown, and myself. Todd played like 2 racks lol. I had a lot of fun though and probably had one too many drinks, I lost $36 in the game so I was okay with the way I played considering who was in the game.
Then I played Shannon some one pocket in which case I sucked really bad and was down between 6 and 8 games for about 3 hours. I somehow played decent at the end and got it back to 3 games but it was midnight and I needed to go home so I just paid him the $30 and took off. I was getting 8-7 from him, it was part booze and part being on tilt the entire time cause I could not stop my cue ball.
This all leads to a 12 minute car ride home in which I decide I am going to play some $.50/$1 NLHE on pokerstars and smoke the rest of my cigarettes and drink beer. I was in a real loser type of mood. Anyway I had a hair over $100 in there so I just took that to the table. First hand I get kings and get shoved on, I call guy gets there with A-K. Oh well it happens. So now I am down to about $48 since he had less money than me, I get good old 4-2 offsuit and play a $10 flop. I hit the 4-2 and shove with 2 pair. I get called by aces and the guy calls me a lot of bad names. Anyway now I'm back a hair over $100 with a guy on tilt at the table....
I go into squeezer mode because I am watching Monica Webb beat the hell out of some girl on a Diamond, she plays real good let me tell you. Anyway this is the hand I wanted to tell you about. I have A-J of hearts, I bump it to $7 and get one caller. Flop comes down As-8h-9h, I bet $15 and get raised to $45. I have like $80 at this point so calling another $30 would be tough but I know he wants me to shove, so I call him down with top pair and a flush draw. Well the second best card in the deck comes for me and the board is now As-8h-9h-10c. With one card to go I felt like I now had a crap ton of outs, of course he puts me all in, I call. He turns over A-K off suit and I realize this poop face has been ahead the whole time, nice!!! Anyway river comes I hit a Jack on him and I get two pair and double up through him.
I now had two guys at the table calling me an idiot, I told them the good players are at the $5/$10 tables and higher. This is the loose call table!!! Either way I think I was supposed to make that call even if he would have shoved on the flop. I played one more hand and cashed it out exactly a $100 winner. $100-$66 = +$34. So I finished the night ahead and drunk and now I get to work though the day

Loose call on the raise but the turn call gave you like 18 outs or half the deck (9 hearts, 3 remainder queens, 3 remainder jacks, and 3 remainder 7s) assuming his king was not a heart. Nice hit.
Yeah you know how I play man, I just flat out will gamble from time to time. I do this so when I actually get big hands no one ever thinks I have it. It's a terrible way to try and make a lot of money playing poker but that's why I just do it recreationally a few times a month. If I ever become a millionaire I'll be the biggest donkey in the USA!!!

That's what I told him. In all fairness it was a $.50/$1 table so the raises there are more cheap. People pop it to $4 with very strong hands so if you are used to the $1/$2 or $2/$4 tables or higher thats why the raise seems kind of cheap to call. Sometimes you just need good timing!!!
Thanks Mikey.These 10 Ball rules change everything. The luck, bad roll, slop, etc. are removed. If you won a match it was because you played better. When we match up I would hope we would use the same or similiar format. Keeps grown men from crying in public.
I like Dean's idea that we should get ball in hand on missed balls instead of an option. There were many times in the tournament where someone missed a ball, it rattled back and forth in the pocket, then went to a rail and left a tough cut. The option rule doesn't punish the guy who got lucky if you give the shot back and he drills it.
The option rule is only good for people who love long thin cuts or those who are masters of the rail to rail long table safe.
It was a fun tournament, but it needs a shorter race next time. Over twelve hours is too long.
