Update on the Des Moines pool scene

My next Saturday tournament is going to be long race Bar Box 8-Ball instead of big table 10-Ball. It just hit me. What about that for a tournament this saturday, could we get 16 people to play!!!! I rarely like to play 8-Ball however after team tournaments I really like it for a few weeks.

Speak now or forever hold your peace.
I have prior commitments otherwise I would love to play!! Oh well, hope you get a good turnout for it!!! Maybe an open player will snap it off :) I know a few that play jam up open pool! lol!

I'm in, longer the race, better the pace. Open, master, B, pro, whatever!

Funny how Jamie didn't get a response out of Mike Athens tonight...hmm weird! I take it he wants nothing to do with Jamie or our other idea either. I'm really not surprised at all I guess. I guess either way he looks bad, so oh well!

the ref made the right call. You cannot shoot directly through the cue ball when they are that close. Love everybodys comments when they were not there. It was CLEARLY a foul. They were less then a chalks width apart. And anybody that says different didn't have the viewpoint that I did. I was less then 2 feet away and almost on top of the shot. It was a foul. And anybody else would of taken too. It was clearly a foul

When the distance between the cue ball and the object ball is less than the width of a chalk cube, (See Diagram 18) special attention from the referee is required. In such a situation, unless the referee can positively determine a legal shot has been performed, the following guidance may apply: if the cue ball follows through the object ball more than 1/2 ball, it is a foul.

that is rule 2.20 **** JUDGING DOUBLE HITS of the bca rule book

I am going to guess the ref thought the distance was less then the width of a piece of chalk.

I wasn't there but from reading this I don't understand what everyone is *****ing about. If it's close, get a ref and after the shot the ref makes the decision and the players live with it. That's what the refs are for.

I don't know Mike personally but how is his honesty or integrity in question if he had a 3rd party (ref) make the decision if it is a foul or not on a close shot?

Some of those slow motion videos from Dr. Dave show that you can foul and not even know it unless you have the high speed camera. Technically a miscue is a foul in his videos because the cue ball gets struck twice. Just because you are a Masters player or there were 2,000 other Masters players watching the shot doesn't mean any of them are correct. That's why the referee makes the decision to the best of their ability. End of story.

My wife in a lincoln tournament once had a ref watch a hit for her. After the shot (which was clearly good) he said foul and picked the cue ball up and handed it to my wifes opponent. My wife asked how it was a foul. He said the stripe moved first. she said "SIR, I AM STRIPES." He looked back at the table and said, oh i meant the solid moved first, and walked off.

Of course her opponent ran out and acted like the ref had done the right thing. Thankfully my wifes team won still.

Did you go back a few pages where Mike admitted it wasn't a foul? His integrity is in question because he would do anything to win! Why wouldn't you do what's right in that case? If it wasn't a foul, then over rule the blind ref!!

As I posted in the "you make the call..." thread:

Calling Mike's character into question over this is total BS. I wasn't there, but that doesn't matter. The bottom line is that refs in all sports make calls like this every day. Regardless of the sport you are talking about some are good calls, some are bad calls and some could literally go either way. Do you ever see a player or coach in the NFL/NBA/MLB decline a favorable call because they think the ref/ump made a bad call? Of course you don't, because the calls tend to even out over time. The bottom line for me, is if you don't want the ref to potentially make a bad call against you, then don't put yourself in a position for the ref to have to make a call at all. If you have ball in hand, why would you even chance it if it was that close?

That's funny, I just responded to you on that thread :)

What page and post was that???

he hit the ball good. But you can't shoot directly through the balls. So now we pick and choose how we follow the rules? If he would of elevated this would be moot.

the rule is in place to lessen arguments. It is well known and the ref used it to base his decision.

oh and the ref said it was a foul.

@Mike B....Post 4600 on page 307 is what they are talking about.

Totally unrelated but in two days I have seen two Olneys for sale, 1 for $400 and 1 for $600...is that his typical pricing? I think his cues play pretty good and can't see them costing under $1200...anyone ever buy straight from him? Do you get a ton of cue for the money?

yes, yes, yes.............

I would just like to point out that Mike Athens hasn't responded to the post I put up for Jamie. He can sit here and call out Jason Richardson, but can't even respond to Jamie? The least he could do is get on here and say he is scared to play Jamie!!

I talked to Mike and the short version he wants me to say is "he's scared and can't win." In all actuality it just means he isn't interested in playing at all.

Thanks Beav, I spent the weekend with Kucharo at the tournament, he's indeed a strong and beautiful person lol. We do have clubs with dancers and they dance for money, sometimes money of mine sometimes money of yours, it's all good when you dealing with whores...it's all good when you dealing with whores!

That's the hook to my new song.
