Update on the Des Moines pool scene

It's called "marketing." Ask Farley about how to do that effectively, as he seems do it better than most (for free!)....My Dad was also an engineer who was good at marketing, too. Strange bedfellows, engineers and marketeers.

Now, if the legue ops said 'no,' that'd be different. If I was marketing something to pool players, I'd pay the leagues if I had to to allow me to insert such fliers....plus, that's how more money can get to the players, fwiw.

Jeff you are absolutely right. There is one key element people over look in promotion. For instance do you have to promote the Midwest 9-Ball Tourney in Olathe? No because it's OLATHE. The point is you have to treat these things like a relationship. You have to woo the people in, show them a great time, and keep them coming back for more. Each unhappy player that shows up is worth how many players not coming the next time?

I feel like it's a no brainer that when you start investing in added money tournament you should have an advertising budget and get the word out there. Keep the players happy so they want to bring more players for next time. Advertise just as hard again. You do it this way until the players start calling you waiting for another tourney to get there fix. You make it so that one day people can say this sentence and it makes sense..."After Davenport, we are going to head to Des Moines and then to Olathe the next week." If that sentence ever makes sense and people don't have to ask you what's in Des Moines, the tournament has done it's job and the target audience has been tapped.

In my never ending quest to stay up until 4AM every night I decided to put a couple C-Notes in my poker stars account last night after vowing to quit online poker after the ridiculous beats I took. Last night I was on the good end of an all in after the flop though.

I have Q-J of hearts. Flop come K-10-7 all hearts. I bet and get shoved on. It was getting late and I was losing a little so I called expecting to see the A of hearts, didn't expect to see A-3 of hearts and a better flush. Before I could curse at the screen the 9 of hearts comes on the turn and the hand is over. Straight flush over Ace high flush, gotta love the internet.

I promptly log off a whopping $18 winner on the night after that but at least the beats go both ways, sometimes!

Justin and i have been playing some of those Scoop tournaments. Gonna play the 6max PLO on sat. $55.

Need to get back to playing daily, been lazy.

I looked at all that SCOOP stuff they have going on, they kinda shove it down your throat. Other than the fact they are running a billion tourneys what's the goal there? I didn't do the homework on it.

If I remember right it was just a copy of the Big Dogs flier, not on his own newsletter so that is correct. Regardless if it is on his own newsletter or a separate flier he has no reason to put it in there other than to make people aware of another tournament they can play in since it has nothing to do with his league. Good for him for going above and beyond even if it seems like a small thing.

yes Randy from APA and Jeff from TAP were both givin flyers to add to weekly news. Weather it comes from Randys pocket or mine (Paul BTW) shouldn't matter. We do everything we can to promote the events.

Bruce Johnson does the best cue maintenance and repair in town hands down. If you don't know, now you know.

Thanks alot Mike! I do it because I love it! I think the best thing about doing cue repair is the feeling I get from look of appreciation on the customers face when I hand them their cue back. Now that is PRICELESS!

Good stuff Bruce.

I repeat to Spimp juice I still have your shirt. Will you please kindly collect the damn thing.
