Update on the Des Moines pool scene

Why don't you talk to Randy about your questions instead of just rant? I doubt you tried, if you have let me know and I will bring up your points to him and see what he says. As for the summer teams not making it in the other sessions...thats a joke right? I don't know the other 4 teams competing but Worms team has Worm and Chad as a 6, Victor as a 7, and Kristen as a 3 just to name part of that team....you can't tell me that isn't a good team lol.

As for the masters side I don't know the story behind it so hard to comment on that.

I'm done commenting on this for now...only 45 minutes more of work before I can go home and hit some balls.

Spimp, can't wait to see your cue and your improved ability when I get back there again which should be sometime around halloween or slightly before.

Hopefully not too much longer before you get back...next on my correction list is my stance, it blows lol. After masters that will be something I change. Hope all is well bud.

Of course I talked to him and told him exactly all of that. I realized at that exact moment I got a better shot learning to speak fluent Dolphin.

About Worm's team, ask her if they would have qualified any other session and see what she tells you. I know what she emailed me and you might be surprised by her answer.

Peace out.

I know I'm slow but does every team have an accountant? I have no idea what u guys are talking about. gotta go the Simpsons are on

I did say that my team qualified in the summer not knowing that we would only be in a bracket with the summer leagues. Had my team qualified again last session, I would have been ok with playing in that bracket. My team probably wouldn't have had the same sweep with a bigger bracket simply by default. But then again, my team did finish 2nd by 1 point is this last session, so who knows how we would honestly do. I know I don't have the fear of anyone on my team moving up or down so I can play my players with confidence. I think that's the biggest advantage my team has above most others.

Everyone knows that in APA the whole purpose of playing is the free trip to Vegas. There's no hidden cost, no hidden steps to get there. Play your session, win it or win by classics... then play in the big tourney and win that. You can even lose a little and still win. Plus there many more ways people can go to Vegas instead of just Carol's team like it was in the past. Players now have the chance to go by Singles, jack and Jill scotch, any scotch, masters, someday a ladies division for just women's singles and team, and finally general team. How can anyone think that sucks?

As far as prize pool money - The money pool is all the same, fair and across the board for anyone who qualified. Unlike some other leagues, where you have NO idea what the payout will be, to just find out either you are getting completely screwed out of your money and trip expenses that were said to be paid for (TAP) or just flat out stolen from with a 48% payback to the players. (VALLEY) Since my team qualified in the summer, it's a rule by Nationals, not just Randy Jones, that a qualified team must stay active and above the 50% mark to remain in good standings. We help compensate for the team that played only one session, or maybe two, that won their spot in masters. Is it "fair" that my team paid extra for the team that possibly qualified in only one session? Some could say No, but grownups would say, I knew the rules when I started. Is it fair that a person who only played the min of matches (4) compared to someone that had to play 10 shoots to qualify? Again it's the rules and you can read them before you sign up. If someone doesn't like that they played less or more than another player and the money is the same... take it up with your captain, not the APA operator.

Mike, if you simply don't like the standings then don't play. - Im not sure why you care even care since your team didn't make it to masters and now your masters team isn’t' as strong since Wes isn't going. You like stirring the pot when things are quiet but I think you are out of line bad talking someone you barely know and a league you are brand new to. JMO

You're the pool marketing expert around here; APA is the pool marketing expert for the nation's newbies.

Maybe you each could learn something from the other?

Jeff Livingston

I know you know about learning and the process that facilitates that. What could a big company ever learn from a customer?!?

APA?...I don't know about them learning from players.:o I used to ***** about 'em, too. I lasted one season and never looked back. Here's my complaint: I asked Carol how the handicapping works. She said read the rulebook. I read the rulebook and it says to ask the LO. wtf? circular deception....lol.

The APA does know about bringing in NEW players and that's a very good thing. You and I and other long-time players, imho, are beyond what the APA offers directly for us.

But I still THANK THE APA for bringing in new players, the lifeblood of the game. At that, they excel beyond ANY other pool organization.

I know everytime I have played in Classics at least 1 of my team members has been moved up, they don't move up all session and we get close and boom a 2 goes to a 3 or a 4 goes to a 5, he can say the computer does it all he wants but I don't buy that shit he sells.

I'm not new to APA at all, I got a couple years under my belt, some high finishes in Vegas and rode that plane 4 times out there since 2007. I know what 'good' looks like. End of the day it's APA, nothing near as respected as the BCAPL and definitely a different class of players.

An APA tourney won't be near the top of my priorities in Vegas in the summer, I gamble, have friends there, and party it up. The rest is kinda irrelavent.

It seems like I care about this more than I actually do, I was just pointing out something I think is shitty, but what's good for the goose....

That's exactly right Jeff, wise man you are(yoda speak). How could you ever take that type of league seriously? The APA Masters is the closest they get to a real stout tourney and they limit it to 3 man teams and a short mixed race. It's a play league but definitely a good time to enter the beer drinking contest.

So.....here's the deal.

The APA is good at bringing in new players - yes.

Sadly the APA does not really help those players get good at pool. The system is flawed. It teaches people to rely on a handicap to compete.

I hadn't played for 5 years, and trust me i knew my handicap scores inside and out. I go 3-2 in the regular season and first round of classics i beat a 3 and move up to a 7. ----eh, no. But it is what it is, i don't even care. I will try to help my team qualify for Vegas and i will be done again with the APA.

I do think what Randy has done to help send more people to Vegas is awesome.

Have a nice day guys/gals. Gonna hit the pool !

I the joke

Well to correct some of the comments on here like ( I am a joke, etc). The person who is writing them continues to pay to play in my league or as far as I am concerned use to as of today. The summer bracket is the way it is to reward the players who pay to play year round. Now if you want to play summer and pay just like they do instead of only playing 1 or 2 or the sessions then you can qualify and play in that bracket. I could always just give the teams that only play 1 session 1/3 of the their amount of the travel fund and the teams that play 2 sessions 2/3. I apoligize if the way I run the league doesnt favor the selfish players who only look out for number one, but I am running this league so it is fair for everyone who plays and to try and get as many players to Vegas as possible not just the ones for some reason think they deserve what they didnt earn. Also if you are going to post and talk trash at least ha
ve the balls to say it to my face.

I think having the divisions have individual qualifiers is the way to go. Makes running the bracket much easier. And like Randy said, it rewards those who want to play year around or atleast the summer. Which is always a bad time of the year for leagues/bars in general.

Looking forward to a good time at Stix. Although i don't think i will be playing on our 9-ball team as i am a 9 and handicaps just make it so its not possible to really play a good team with me playing :(

I absolutely don't have to play in the league especially if that means I'm not entitled to an opinion. I'm not going to quit though, I don't sand bag, I pay my dues, don't have sportsmanship violations soooo kind of makes me a model member doesn't it?

Glad you signed up. Why do we get $821 for Masters league? It's not a teams fault you could not sustain a league. The league was supposed to last 2 sessions, not 1 so roughly I assume we got about half what we should have gotten. What's the right thing to do in that situation. Also to be specific why can't we replace Wes on our team? In the doubles others team have this option if they qualify for singles or teams? I understand the reason is because Jamie is not on an active roster right now, otherwise we could. That logic just doesn't make sense.

Although I'm not in the teams how does breaking it up by session promote sending the best teams in the league? Is the goal not to send the best teams. Some of the teams will be smart enough next year to win in the summer and 'stay eligible' the rest of the year since they will only have to beat a 4 other teams instead of 8.

opinion

You are right everyone is entitled to an opinion and I always am willing to listen to anyone, but refering to someone as a joke and continuing to complain to everyone except the person you are talking about is not voicing your opinion it is whinning. I dont refer to anyone or name names unless I it is face to face. So if you arent part of the solution you are part of the problem. So if you want to continue to put my name out there and make derogatory comments I have not time for you and neither does the APA. Try being constructive.

Okay if you don't want me to call you a joke I sure won't. I don't want to make personal attacks on you, so I shouldn't have said that. I don't want my point to get lost in childishness or provide any type of excuse for you to not answer some pretty easy questions. So SORRY RANDY.

With that said....any answers to my questions? They are pretty easy questions. I like them to be answered openly so that way there is transparency and that's always good for business.

(snip)!

That's where the other leagues fill in...Players Club, Metro, Valley...etc...These leagues attract and take in the frustrated APAers and raise their games to a higher level. Now the APA can find more newbies. Eventually some of them are gonna end up at Dog's...

Aren't there 11 leagues in Des Moines now? That's pretty awesome.

Good news for one pocket players!

Paul is going to start running one pocket tournaments every Saturday at Big Dog's. They are going to open at 11:30 and hopefully start them at around noon or a little after.

Race to 3
Double elimination
$15 entry
$5 green fee

With 16 or more players, the bar is going to add all of the green fees back to the payout.

I hope we can make this a big weekly tournament. Maybe we can get enough interest for them to add more Diamond nines.

Will definitely be there if I don't go to the bar table tourney in Missouri.
