Update on the Des Moines pool scene

Only 9 showed up for the first week. Hopefully when the word spreads, we will get 14 to 20 each week.
I finished one spot from the money. Mikey H, Theo, and Shanon were still in when I left.

So i go to Stix (west) today after picking my son up. I was fresh out of bed...T-shirt/Shorts/Hat. I wanted to see how the 9-ball masters was finishing up. As i am talking with some friends i hear "Looking for another player for a 8-ball superboard". I tell Randy, if you can wait 20mins, i'll have the wife bring my cues down..He says sure thing.
5 hours later, i qualified for regionals.
Congrats to Spina/Kelly S./others? who will be there aswell !
After the great weekend i had i hope those lotto tickets i bought Sat. morning pan out !
PS: The Master's tournament went very well. A little typical compaining, but nothing too crazy. Sadly our teams lost out, but Larry Sparks' team and Grant Wheelers' team qualified...I am sorry i don't know all the names of people on those teams.

I talked to a couple different people tonight and they don't like playing the one hole tourney even. Handicapping might boost the attendance up some over time. Handicaps would probably be pretty close to correct after a month or so.
I personally don't care as I have played about 4 games of one pocket since the last tourney I had which has been a while.
Mikey and Theo chopped and Shannon forfeited out in 3rd to go get some food or something I heard.
People need to get off the "i need a handicap to win" train. These are the same people that when they get the handicap won't show up anyway, so whats the point. Last time they handicapped the 1pkt, it lasted like 2 more times and noone came anymore.
I will be there in two weeks, next week is our 8ball masters.

Forgive the APA ignorance. What is the significance of regionals? Is that Vegas? To get to Vegas? Didn't they have Vegas already?

Thanks brotha....good shooting out of you too. It was nice to get into competition again. The cue looks to be a keeper so that is a bonus. Brian Hearl and I played on one of the most uneven tables I have seen in awhile. The very first game when it was my turn to try to run out I had an easy small cut that I wanted to slow roll to get shape on my next shot. The slow roll ending up rolling off about a full inch and I didn't even hit the ball and gave ball in hand. Talk about getting in your head. Brian noticed it as well so by the end of the match we were banging balls harder because we could not slow roll anything.
As for the nine ball tourney I don't know who was on Larry's team but I think John Hall, TJ, Grant, Grant's wife were on that team. I am psyched for 8 ball team championships this weekend. One week to try to get into stroke with the new cue.

. I am not sure when regionals is, I would assume maybe early fall. The singles board qualifies individuals for Regionals. Regionals is the tournament to qualify for Vegas in singles. Regionals is twice a year and usually is either in Omaha, or Des Moines rotating every other. Thanks Matt, occasionally I can pull something out of my @ss and play well. Hopefully I will do so this next weekend if I play for our team. I am hungry to go back to Vegas. Last time I was sick as a dog. Thanks to Kelly S and Jimmy for stopping me from offering Stephano Pelinga the 7 ball while he was doing trick shots for a crowd after I had a few beers lol.
Big H. paypal works. Grady gonna get hijacked in a real game, he always plays people 15-13 and wild stuff like that, I never seen him get just 8 and I used to hang out in his pool room.
John Wooden died, that's pretty damn sad. Kind of put a damper on my weekend.
Gary Coleman's 25 year old chick killed him. She's the new O.J. Simpson. Bet the glove don't fit.
No comment on the APA stuff, all I know is none of my questions get answers that you need a battery in the back to understand.
One pocket tourney comment, the interesting dynamic that's there is people match up a lot in one hole and there isn't as much of a luck factor in it. So when you get 10-6 you don't want to play even versus people cause even if you win it starts to effect the gambling. People make jokes like if you beat me even you aint gettin a spot again, who would want to queer a game for a $90 first place. Phil used that line several times when I was there and I know that runs through my head. Plus some people don't want to get better and have work and family issues that would prevent a lot of practice and they shouldn't have to just donate cause life is in the way.
That's a doozy.

The way they handicapped it before was, someone said you're this and you're that. If there was a 3 person group of like Justin/Mikey/Paul..They could assign reasonable spots...but whats the limit ? Make it a A,B,C...A's play even, B's get 9-7, C's get 10-6...if a B plays a C the C gets 9-7.
I haven't been to Dogs in a month, 1pkt action must have picked up.

I think Don is going to play this Saturday. That should be worth the $20 if anyone is lucky enough to play him. Forget handicaps, they didn't work when we tried them before.

How bad was it? That sucks.
He lost before he got on the plane, he was down 3 pretty much from the start and john got there the third time he got to the hill. They played slow but it lasted 5 and a half hours max for the 4 ahead set.
I like when I win, only because I like to say SHIP IT!!!

Make no mistake about it, 2 years ago, Grady would have robbed him. I heard his disease has finally gotten the best of him and his game is all but lost. I bet accordingly. 2 years ago, those wild looking shots that it looked like he was shooting, he would have drilled and never missed an open ball. It was actually pretty sad to see him play like that especially considering just a couple short years ago he would have way the best of that game. Age is brutal!
Good luck to all the teams this weekend for 8 ball. I definitely feel our bracket is pretty brutal, so it should be fun and stressful. Who wants it easy anyway?? I will be up at Stix in Windsor for sure on Thursday to hit some balls since I have league there if anyone wants a bit of additional practice.

Our team got 2nd this weekend in masters in our brutal bracket so we played well and got close but no cigar. Rippin Felt won our bracket (Larry and Eric Heck, not sure who else is on that team) which I think qualified for Vegas last year and was pretty loaded with some baggers. Our team played well but seemed to run out of gas in the finals. We lost Saturday night at about 1230 and had to be back by 8 the same morning to play again. After playing a 4+ hour match which went to a fifth match sudden death and then playing the next round we were on fumes trying to stay focused for the finals at 4PM. It was fun, just sucks to play that well and just come up short as a team. Hopefully next time. Congrats to the teams that qualified.
Definitely think my cue is a keeper so no more selling it for a $3-400 loss!
