Update on the Des Moines pool scene

LOL!!!! Does a reach around mean the same thing to both of us? A reach around would be a cock grab and hopefully ur requesting said reach around from a chick instead of a guy.

Just a joke man...If I am going to get pounded by an elite I would at least like a reach around, a free dinner, a shot, coupons for a free video of my choosing, or a $ game at the ol Silverstrike or Ms. Pac Man penny a point.

Well, we WERE up until that last post... :slap:

Plus I didn't have all Thursday/Friday/Saturday/ etc to commit to playing.

I hear you Matt. I actually have to work Saturday morning myself, but may sneak out early. I'm just giving you crap buddy. Text me your email address please. I have something to send you....

FYI...Allison(My Wife) wanted to have our wedding reception/holiday party this weekend, BUT I PUT MY FOOT DOWN and asked her nicely if we could change it to next weekend...LOL How do you think that went over?

If we want this level of pool to survive in our town, DSM pool players need to get to this tournament!! It's a race to 9 in nine ball....tell me your not getting your moneys worth. Not to mention the possible action this town hasn't seen in a looooooonnnnng time if ever.

Dust off your cues, stop making excuses and get out there everyone. Even if its just to sweat and spend some money at Big Dogs. Remember if they don't get the turn out, or Big Dogs doesn't bring in the money they need to to make this work, consider this tournament history....

Glad to see BigTruck will be in the house! I can't wait!

Bruce, seems like you "get it"... I hope a lot of the other local players understand that if there is not a big turnout, this will be the first, and last tournament of this caliber in Des Moines for a while. And by turnout I don't mean a dozen or so world beaters, it means 40 or 50 players that probably don't have a chance to win, some of them probably don't even have a chance to cash, BUT they realize that the chance to play in the same tournament as these WORLD CLASS players doesn't come along every day.

That's cause you live in NPR and don't check the tourney announcements plus we been yapping about it on this thread for quite some time.

I frequent the main forum daily. I don't post much as I'm not the best player/teacher in the world and I don't gamble anymore, etc. I do play pool in public at least twice a week. Two leagues plus for fun.

I hang with lots of pool players and not ONE mentioned anthing. hmmmm

I read about it here, asked about it and you are the first to reply. thanks.

When I talk about marketing being the highest value, this is a perfect example of the lack of that in pool.

I hope the tourney is a smashing success and is repeated soon.

That's it!! Do I think I will cash....no. Sure I would like to, and I will play my heart out, but I just don't have 5 hours a day to dedicate to pool. Let alone 1 hour sometimes. But If I have a chance to play guys like that straight up, handicapped or anywhere in between I will just for the experience. I don't play pool to make money, I play it because I LOVE the game....any money is just a bonus.

Jeff, I do know the flier was posted in the tournament area in a thread about 11-15 and was bumped a lot. As for the fliers around town I do not know. We have talked for awhile here on it, but I don't know how far back that goes. I agree the marketing is key, but to be honest a non-handicapped tournament will limit the players that enter locally, especially with monster players in it. Not everyone can afford the $60 plus calcutta $10 plus food/drink expenses for 1-2 days. They at least want a fighting chance to cash which some players do have. I also agree with Bruce's comment about playing for the love of the game and not necessarily the money...it goes both ways there depending on the person.

I totally agree with that. I don't expect everyone to play in it. I'm just saying come and support it. Stop in and see the action...maybe buy a drink or two, maybe some cheese balls. This will not happen again if Randy looses his pants on the deal. And for everyone that will just watch the stream at home, remember its not free either. Someone is paying for it so you can watch it for free. I'm just saying...

Bud I am all about it and tomorrow will be there for sure. I was referring to more playing in the tournament + expenses. Regardless I will be out there to support it and sweat some action.

Someone is paying $750 for the stream. so yeah come buy $25 worth of booze and food while you sweat the vast majority from the armchair. My woman is not very pumped up about it but you know what she'll deal with it cause I'm a f*ckin gangsta. No I am missing a Christmas get together of people important to her but she understands it.

Moral of the story is there will be some upsets. Most of us have won the local tourneys at some point or scored in action they werent supposed to win. So guess what, one set even these champions are beatable, just need the stars to align and you to play great. The one pocket will guaranteed be a success as I looked at whos already signed up and let me tell you Des Moines people are playing like its the $20 Saturday tourney when it first started times 2. So in the good days of the Sunday tourney they would get 50 or so people, hopefully those 50 that now mostly play the Ten Ball will decide to come out and swing it.

My prediction on players...42 in the one pocket and 92 in the 9-Ball. I really do think it will be that strong. It's going down.

I'll tell you what, if you get anywhere close to that 90 in nine ball that will be a big success. Take out the $10 green fee included in the entry and $50 X 90 = $4500 of prize money which does not include the calcutta and any sweat bets and post match gambling that will occur! Nice lil prize pool.

I would play had it not been scheduled on top of everything else. Not that my schedule matters at all. It was posted 11-15. Less than a month to pull off all the re-arranging my calender needs was too short. That's just me and why I will float in and out when I can, instead of play.

I would much rather play pool, but still - sometimes you gotta dance with the one who brung ya. First-ies is my calendar rule.

I hope to get out and see you there.:D

What's my odds on the over/under??

Pretty strong numbers for a first run, IMO. I would be happy with that.

Better open up the parking lot - there's gonna be some crowds this weekend. I hope they hired some more staff...

I'll be there before I sleep tonight....

The champions are very beatable. It is BARTABLE pool...ANYONE can win!

Everyone misses, even the top players. I've seen top pros miss some of the easiest shots on bar tables...everyone is human.

I agree with you. But I have to catch them on that rare occassion and be playing my best (rare occasion ) to have a chance. So those are long odds as it is.

Its still fun to try.

Ashmore just texted me Jody is running the calcuttas so hopefully he brought back some dirt from the US Open on the top players in the field!

Just for some exposure, I would like to say that Bruce put a tip on my cue and it is excellent. The best part is that he is so customer service driven, I didnt even have to drive up to des moines to get this done. Thanks again.
