Update on the Des Moines pool scene

I'm a little bummed...only getting $200 for the trip to Vegas in April which won't even cover the two flights. We do get a very good rate on the hotel, especially with 4 of us going so I can't complain too much really. Team trips to Vegas must be a completely different entity. I remember the one time I went that we had the whole flight covered, all of the room covered (due to 2 qualifying people on the team staying vs 1), and about $100 spending money for each player...granted there are more team entries than singles entries...still tough though. Time to squeeze the pennies the next few months. Ramen Noodles and Easy Macs!

And yes $50 on black 13....35 to 1

Everyone knows you put $45 on black.

They are voting on things at the year end tourney and I am going to vote for several things.

1) Change from 9-Ball to 10-Ball with Friday rules, luck brings players.

2) If they keep it at 9-Ball, make the 9 on break count again

3) Rack for your opponent

4) Vote for winner break in either 10-Ball or 9-Ball

5) No lagging for break, its not the US Open and it's gay.

6) Use the break box, side rail break is over.

7) Finals one extended race

8) Cancel the year end tournament and let people get paid during the weeks. Adding $2500 is significantly less than the last two years.

9) Make the tourney single elimination

10) Get a break and run going that pays by the ball on the big table.

I have this written out on a piece of notebook paper I will be turning in.

1) Change from 9-Ball to 10-Ball with Friday rules, luck brings players. Agree

2) If they keep it at 9-Ball, make the 9 on break count again. Except when a player is on the hill. Make a player win by showin da skilz.

3) Rack for your opponent. Agree again, the rack your own brings up the pattern racking issue which has been beat to death. Throw the damn balls in the rack and let's play.

4) Vote for winner break in either 10-Ball or 9-Ball. Toss up here, can see pluses and minuses to both.

5) No lagging for break, its not the US Open and it's gay. +1, and if a player refuses and wants to lag they will have to buy a drink or shot for their opponent.

6) Use the break box, side rail break is over. Don't care too much on this one, especially if it changes to 10 ball.

7) Finals one extended race. +1

8) Cancel the year end tournament and let people get paid during the weeks. Adding $2500 is significantly less than the last two years. What is the expected field and how does that compare to the last 3 years?

9) Make the tourney single elimination. Disagree, If I were playing I would want to start early, anyone can have a bad match and fight to still cash or place high.

10) Get a break and run going that pays by the ball on the big table. +1...still haven't seen this yet and it gets rave reviews by others on this site, especially if it gets built up nicely.

Also, some other challenges would be nice to see (ala speed pool, trick shots etc). As long as it doesn't distract from the main tournament.

I tried talking about a single elimination tournament awhile back, makes it interesting i think. Plus it could make for a VARIETY of winners but, that is not something the Sunday tournament wants....so i am guessing that is a no go.

Rack your own has to go, people are abusing it which was not the idea. The idea was so you didn't have to ask your opponent over and over to be fair racking for you.

9 ball on a bar table is a joke of a game. But 10 ball is friday's and that is successful so why change that.

I agree.

Results are below.

I do feel like it's only fair to point out that Stix Ankeny had year end tourneys last week. The charge $6 for their tourneys. Jimmy won $700 for winning the 8-Ball and Pet won a little over $500 for winning the 9-Ball year end there.

I just thought of vote #11. Since they don't and shouldn't handicap it why not graduate the entry fee to get more people in the door. You could do like $10/$15/$20/$25 for C/B/A/AA players. That would at least boost the numbers and make more people inclined to come out and play. It's sad on the weeks when there are 17 players.

A fair way you could do graduated entries:

$15 entry. If you played the week before and didn't cash, you get in for $10. Some people would get in for $10 most weeks, but noone could say they are stealing. This would also make people play more weeks. If you play every other week it would be $15 each time.

I just noticed that the U.S. bar table championships are the end of Feb. I wonder if this will affect the turnout on our big one-pocket and barbox 8-ball tournament.

Someone should get the info and post it in the tournament section for our tournament.

The entry fee will affect the turnout more. There will most likely be more players but no big names. It's less everything this go around but sometimes less is more. Big Dogs will do better with this tourney structure.

Anybody playing 10 ball Saturday at Stix? I was going to maybe stop out and donate to the cause.

It's the year end tourney at Dogs this weekend Spimp juice. If I get knocked out I will come to the tourney though. That Jimmy dude owes me 20 bucks there and it's time to collect :)

I wonder if they are even having the tourney then. I will check with Worm. Bartender Jimmy? It's going to be hard not to booze there with the tournament and NFL going on, no bruskys till Superbowl for me :(. Gots to drop some lbs and save some $ before Vegas. Hit me up if you are heading out there.

I am officially a silverstar on Pokerstars until February 28th. Thank you, and have a good day. Omaha H/L is an interesting game.

Does that come with perks like Tony Stark?? Or something?

Anyone know how the tourny ended? My guess would be Jody took it off.

FWIW

Here is the details in the email I got. Yippee lol. I don't really play on it enough to maintain or try to get the Gold Star. I won one big hand (see attached) and lost some medium hands. For some reason this guy did not bet on the flop so the free card was totally worth the $10 he bet on the turn. He then just shoved on the river lol..after putting on $50 I am only at about $105 so I will probably cash out unless I feel froggy.
