Update on the Des Moines pool scene

Thought Kitto was an Elite Master, I don't shoot state so I'm not totaly sure.

Kitto, Mulnix and some other Masters play league here in Cedar Rapids, kind of a bad night when they show up.

valley(IOMA) doesn't recognize elites, just pros.
Kitto and Mulnix are both on the IOMA masters list.

ISPA has an elite list.

I thought ISPA did away with elite this year. Or maybe they just moved a bunch of people down. I think they are all playing in the masters division in davenport. I believe they have to give up a game or 2

Thats what they did last year. Probably the same this year. Last year G. Rice played Bowman race to 9 getting 2 games. Rice said the set lasted about 20 minutes......

I don't agree with putting elites with masters and just giving weight. They should have their own division. But according to ISPA, they can't get enough elites there to make it worth their while. Which IMO, is saying that their time is worth more than everyone else in which I disagree.

I liked the idea of a pro-am event they had. If you pay, you can play....

They had a real good turnout for that event.

No they didn't. The first or second year SVB played and a couple others. The last year was all master players, well a couple non-masters as well.

It was a joke and the ISPA new it. Only thing it did was screw good teams out of playing together. Glad for the most part its gone.

The one year that SVB played Jody the first round? If I remember, they had 50+ in the pro-am. I would say that is a good turn out. After that, I would agree, it went down hill.

The ISPA has historically tried to funnel money into the upper divisions... which I think is both good and bad. The pro-Am was good one year and the last time they had it, there were hardly any 'names' and most anyone who entered got paid. Last few years the Master's division has been disappointing to me, numbers wise - especially for having the most added money. Not sure what the ideal solution is... probably is no solution.

Bottom line, it pays to stay in the lower divisions, which doesn't give anyone incentive to improve either. Get a good showing, screw up your team, get rolled at the next level, donate for years to come --- not sure why anyone would want to win the thing -- at any level...

Unless the added money goes to some kind of Derby City type of atmosphere event -- and frankly former president of the ISPA Ken had the right ideas, IMO -- there isn't any reason to not try and do something with the 'extra' money that will benefit ALL members. again, JMO.

Aside from Time and space; (which can easily be solved with a venue change); why do we not have a one pocket division?? Or a 'green room' for extra curricular matches during the ISPA? It's the biggest pool hall in the state, if not the nation, for about 5 days - why not have lots of excitement? A finals 'hall' arena where we could stream Semi-final and final matches with seating for spectators -- make it an experience and promote it a bit. Even an action 'pit' streamed with seating.

Last time I watched an action match, there were enough spectators we could have filled a set of small bleachers -- the woof fest alone was entertaining... I also watched a finals of the open division being played next to two dinks who were hardly good enough to hold a stick the right way right on the next table. Real classy.

I would easily pay/donate to a one pocket tournament while I am there instead of donating to the Casino - maybe i would be the only one.

Whatever -- I don't expect the ISPA board to change the status quo anytime soon.

Has anyone posted info on the tournaments at Big Dogs at the end of this month? I heard it was going to be one pocket and barbox 8 ball. Does anyone know the races and entry fees?

Kinda what I was thinking... about the world-beaters.

How do you figure? Added money was always harder to figure than calculus to me.

At ISPA, 8 ball, Elites race to 7, money placing masters race to 6. First time Masters or non money placing masters race to 5. For 9 ball, i believe just add 2 games to those totals. That's how it was last year.

I figure because the one pocket is $30+$10 entry fee with zero money added. So say 25 players play, thats $250 in registration fees.

In the 8 ball it is $25+$10 entry fee with $500 added back to the tournament. So if 25 people show up, thats another $250 in registration fees.

$250 +$250 = $500.

Those were some very conservative numbers too, 8Ball should have considerably more players than that. So take that FWIW

So that's really not money added? Just money re-distributed?

Sometimes I think that you gotta follow the ball under the shell to tell what's going on.

Thats called "Adding money" without having to ADD THEIR OWN MONEY!

Is Ol' dude(his name slipped my cranium) gonna be selling those $18 bbq beef sandwiches again? Best $ spent in the place!

Last night league was over by 8:02pm. 16 games. 13 were 2 innings or less. 3 games went 3 innings.

So now the real reason for this post. Normally I would agree that nothing good happens after midnight let alone 2am, BUT........ if you are at the right place at the right time.........

BOOBIES!!!!!!
Sometimes it pays to stay till closing time.
