Update on the Des Moines pool scene

Yeah, I lost some money. He could have won a lot more, but he didn't want to change the game and bet more. I even offered to play the next day.

I probably shouldn't have tried to play him after not hitting a ball for 3 weeks.

I know Jason Chance wants to play Beau again. I just don't know when it will happen.

Who is Beau?...a local guy?

So.......
Smokeys is going to have a new owner????(90% done deal is what I heard)

Anyone know the possible new owner?

Big Dog's getting ready for the big move? Anyone know if they are going to have "Melodee Music" Valley tables?

Smokies is still open..? LOL

I drove by the "new" building last week and it looks the same as it has for the last three years.....RUN DOWN.

Thanks, Bruce.

Btw, I get great reports from local players of your cue repair skills.

Thank you sir!! I do my best. I also buy and sell new and used cues, cases and accessories, so if you know anyone that needs anything send them my way and I will guarantee them a great deal. I don't do this to make a living, I do it because I enjoy it and I love the game.

I already have dropped your name numerous times.

Which one of those boys did you end up playing? I've played most of them.

Jason and Beau would be a good match for a lot of money. Unless Beau stops that ultra aggressive style he has. he will not get that money.

I played Beau. He was 11 ahead after one night of play and didn't want to give me another ball.

Does anyone know the story with Big Dogs? I drove by the "suspected" building last night and it's still in pretty rough shape with no signs of anyone working on it. I highly doubt anyone will be moving into it in the next month like I've heard. From what I could tell it's still for sale....?

Oh okay, it's nitty but it's also a compliment to you in a way. Nitty cause he was winning and should have wanted to keep betting. A compliment cause if he felt like he couldnt give you more weight.

Met the new owner Thursday night. Decent guy. He's got some plans for the place. Mostly going toward the karaoke/band thing. Gonna take out 3 tables(mistake if you ask me)

Talked with him about pool tournaments he is planning on running. He's got good ideas but with Big Dogs tourney on Friday, it would be hard to compete with that. A Saturday tournament would be something though. He did say he had planned on matching the payout though which might entice people.

I would envision some changes to the place fairly soon. Not betting on anything but optimistic at best.

I heard thru the grapevine that the ISPA Tourney might be in DM, any truth or news on this???

You heard right. In 2013, the best state level pool tournament in Iowa will be moving to Des Moines to become even better. Just think of some of the advantages this will provide.

You will now be able to play other League players form all over the state...not just the East half. If you should happen to win your Division, you will truly be the State Champion of Iowa.

The possibility for growth is treamendous. As of right now, there are NO Leagues from West of I-35 participarting the the ISPA. In 2013...with the proper advertising and promotion...you could look forward to competing with players from Atlantic, Sioux City, Spencer, Carroll, Shannondoah, Mason City, Spirit Lake, Red Oak, many more from Ohaha/ Council Bluffs, Ames and your own Des Moines...not to mention Most of the existing players already participating in the ISPA.

And at HyVee Hall. Wow, what a great place. We could, someday, fill up that whole hall (both sides) with pool tables ( as many as 250?) and vendors. Maybe some sort of ProAm similar to the Derby City Classic...someday.

Maybe Praire Meadows could sponsor a Pro Event at the same time. We might be able to work a deal with them to allow ISPA members discounted entry prices if we (ISPA) helps with the setup and running the tournament.

I think the possibilities are endless. You all need to thank Julie for all of the hard work she has put into this effort to get the tournament to Des Moines. She only began to work diligently after the April Tournament when it was brought to her attention that this was the year to renew the contract.

As she mentions on her website (linked above), she will need a good responsible crew from Des Moines to run the event. I hope some of you will give her the hand she needs to keep this tournament alive and GROW GROW GROW! The potential is there, the location is there and now the work is there. As Larry the Cable Guy says...GITTER DONE!!!

See you in DM in 2013...but probably in Davenport next April.

L8R...Ken
