Update on the Des Moines pool scene

9 footers

why only 9 nine foots. That's less than before if you count what was on the kiddie side, unless you mean just Diamond 9 footers. Will they play more level than the last set of Diamond 9's.

How many tables in all ?

I heard rumor today that it may not be until March now.

depends on inspector

I talked to Marc the other day; He told me 10 Diamond 9' --with the fancy 18-point leveling systems--plus I think a couple 9' gold crowns. Then there's a handful of valley bar boxes and I think a bunch of Diamond 7'.

There is an inspection at the end of the month.

I'm pretty sure of two things: (1) they are working hard, and (2) it'll be worth the wait.

x 2

I agree with both you points. I know Marc and Randy want this this place up and running as soon as possible. It's not like their dragging their feet. People come on here and slam them because they are not open yet. Like they should be able to snap their fingers and have the new place all ready to go. I said it before. I think Des Moines is lucky to have someone like these guys that are willing to take the risk. Of sinking as much time and money into a new place when times are as tough as they are. Especially when you read on here everyday of other pool halls acrossed the country closing. I myself thank them and wish them luck.

While I can agree with the previous two postings -- and it's great to hear there are going to be some top notch tables again -- I think there is one thing that could be pointed out.:grin-loving:

It would be nice to see some communication or updates of their progress. I think that DM is thirsty for a pool hall and having the Big Dog missing has been tougher than might have been imagined. A couple simple facebook / Az thread posts would sate most of our curiosity into the progress of opening back up. I wouldn't read the impatient comments as bashing, as more our desire to have them back open so we can again engage in games in the "Green Felt Jungle"

Businesses are tough to start, and I imagine tough to move existing locations with or without the massive slates to be handled. But I would consider 30 minutes spent with a computer / camera or a smartphone to be extremely important in the PR game. A couple posts / blogs/ threads on the progress would inveriably keep the rumor mill quiet and sate the inquiring minds.

But I guess all considered, people will show up anyway -- and those that are there to bang and swill aren't too hard to please - and the rest will be there because there isn't an alternative.

I wish them success and hope that it's a nice place to play and I know that I will want to be there more than I should. I miss being able to streatch out a bit without banging into walls, chairs, kareoke singers and the like.

Having a real pool hall will be nice again.:joyful:

Fast Eddie: No bar?
Cashier: No bar, no pinball machines, no bowling alleys, just pool... nothing else. This is Ames, mister.

I doubt the city would allow multiple "real" pool halls. but we can always dream :)

It's not the city 'allowing' them, but I don't think we have a market demographic big enough to 'feed' all of them.

Unfortunately, you can't have a place without a bar -- and there in lies the rub -- you most likely can't make money on food and pool alone.

Don't we know someone with the city we can 'grease' the wheels a bit to get this thing moving??

Stupid government meddling (right Jeff?);)

They would never make it.

They have to sell booze to make it. Even when they have a big tournaments most of the better players have a soda and a bag of chips. Their not here to catch a buzz just to try and take the money and run. Now the league player that different most of them are out to have a good time and don't mind throwing a few back.

I am guessing bad, who here in town can hang with that type of competition. I have been there and those folks can play. :)

Looks like the locals can play 'some'. :embarrassed2:

Someday I will make it down there....:(

How may gonna play in the team tournament in a couple weeks?:D

Local Justin R. makes the front page by beating Dee Adkins in a 1 pocket match!:woot:
No pic but still.....

I decided awhile back i wasn't gonna post on here because of fake ass people hiding behind screen names and talking trash.

However, Justin won because of a forfeit by Dee.............

Please return to your regularly scheduled discussions of when dogs is gonna open, lol.

Way to throw up all over a feel good story for DM! :barf:

However, if you ignore the fake people, you'll have more energy!:happydance:

Does anyone know when Bigs Dogs is going to open. I am just wondering what date they have moved it back too. Thanks in advance.

Now THAT is intimidation. I agree J, that whole hiding sht is weak...makes your trash talking look even weaker. Fortunately there can only be one spimp! Carry on with the BD talk now.
