Ivica Putnik just won 2008 European Straight Pool title yesterday beating Ralf Souquet 125-99 in the final.

Does this count as a qualifier for this year or year 2009?

I would love to see Ivica in the World Championships! The man played his heart out throughout the entire tournament and beat one of the best 14.1 players in the world. The guy is a crowd pleaser and capable of winning against anybody in the world - he'd be a great addition to the tournament, Charlie!

Go Jimmy and go Bernie! Will this be live streamed koreandragon? :)

I believe Accu-Stats will be there. I think the live stream is also a great idea -

Charlie, the live stream would be a great way to recoup some of your production costs - perhaps charge $10 a fee to access the stream. It would be a great investment.

That updated list sure does not have the top US pros playing. Where is Schmidt, Harriman, Archer, Strictland, etc...?

All of the above are in Dragon's final list released today, as well as Cory, Mika, Jasmine Ouschan, and Gerda Hoffstatter.

A great field.

I took the players from the email and parsed it a little better. Some interesting things appear:

1) It looks like this list in the email might be down to the actual brackets. I say that only because the #1 seed is with the #16, the #2 with the #15, and so on. They are also the first two listed in each group of 8. I also can't think of any other reason that I would be player number 62 in the email, since I was one of the first confirmed.

2) If the above is the case, it looks like there's an oversight (?) in how the list was presented, because there are only 7 people in group 4 (Danny Harriman's group) and 9 people in group 8 (Johnny Archer's group).

Anyway, here it is:

Ortmann ...............................1
Hopkins ................................16
Ram Cha
Nowlan
Pettipiece
Chamberlain
Kelly
Burrows

Hohmann ...............................2
Sigel ..................................15
Young Park
Williams
Fulcher
Gottier
Cataldi
Cornia

See ....................................3
Schmidt ................................14
Jentsch
Hatch
Vidal
Mendoza
Heidrich
Daya

Harriman ...............................4
Feijen ................................13
Barouty
Hofstatter
Maidhof
Lynch
Snodgrass

Kempter ................................5
Souquet ................................12
Robles
SanSouci
Facquet
Wallace
Ciccia
Smith

Engert .................................6
Hundal ................................11
Deuel
VanDenberg
Staab
Ford
Krah
Shuff

Immonen ................................7
Hunter .................................10
Stepanov
Davis
Deska
Ritter
Yednak
Cozzolino

Archer .................................8
Ouschan ................................9
Babica
Rodriguez
Coker
Hakim
Lipsky
Lillis
Maropolous

Again, I want to stress that I have absolutely no direct knowledge that the brackets actually look like this. It is only an assumption based on the strange presentation in the email...

Steve is in dead gear right now. He even sees patterns in e-mails!

LOL... Steve is another guy - if he gets into the balls and starts to put up big numbers - he could go a long way in this tournament - he's a dark horse - but anybody that takes him lightly is going to have a really bad day!

This will be an awesome tourney, too bad no live stream of it.This event and Turning Stone are 2 of the best events coming from the North East. :frown:

Jasmin Ouschan is seeded #9 while John Schmidt is #14. Wow! Does anyone really believe she is a better 14.1 player than Schmidt?

Nobody believes that, but in the last two world 14.1 championships each has a fifth place finish and a ninth place finish. In other words, Jasmin has earned the respect she gets through very exceptional play, so give her the credit she deserves.

And, of course, nobody has confirmed that these are the seedings.

On the Dragon Promotions website, it lists the seedings with Jasmine 9th. I respect her game, but she still does not deserve to be seeded 9th. On that note, I would love for her to prove me wrong.
