You are right. I worked there for 7 years. I recently sold a nice pool table light and it was too big for the post office...so I had to use UPS. I packed it well, but naturally they destoryed it. I took it down there and they of course blamed my packing job. I said it looks like it was ran over by a skid loader, how could any packing job save it? They didn't care. I won't use them again. They will only pay if they packed it at one of the UPS stores.

They NEVER Pay, unless you have UPS pack it. Then expect to pay through the nose for the services, if you can find it. I stopped using UPS.
Use USPS priority mail, insured or if it's really valuable send it Registered-insured. It cost more, and is a bit slower but has to be signed for all along the way and locked up when not in transit. I've shipped very expensive items this way. Never had a problem.
