I had this book bought for me for xmas. Is it just me or does anybody else find it really hard to digest the information in this book?

I'm not thick, I have fully took in information from other books and coaches advice etc, but this book just does not connect with me at all. It feels like a sales pitch for his Science of Pocket Billiards book because everything refers to that book. Also what's it doing teaching people to suck eggs by talking about table selection etc? Surely you go into one pocket knowing how to play and what tables should do etc...

Do you guys have any experience with the book? I'd like to stick with it but need some positive reviews to help me. So far I feel it's only second worst to Precision Pool by Kanov and Stauch

I liked this book and took a lot from it. Its not "winning one pocket" or "shots move and strategies" but then its a tiny fraction of the price!!

As for the tables i'm sure if you went over to onepocket.org and had a chat on there some very experienced players would open your eyes to tiny things about tables that CAN make a difference.

There are some goods points in the book i found worth reading. I thought it was shallow at first but picked it up later and appreciated it more.

It's value to you is what you know now and will it improve your knowledge. What is your present refernce point for learning One Pocket? Do you have a good instructor? Are there good OP players to observe?

I have that book and I kinda felt the same way. You're better off picking up a few DVDs like "one pocket my way" by Gabe Owen. "killer one pocket" by Grady and "Power one pocket" by Scott Frost.

my recollection
i thought the book was very usefull for a beginner
it gave good strategies ,a few break and responces
lots of meat and potato stuff
last time i read it was many years ago

when you finally get your hands on winning one pocket you will say that Koehlers book gets 11-5 from W1p and its stealing!

Jack Koehler has written 2 fine books on pool.

I would rate The Science of Pocket Billiards better primarily due to the greater volume of information.

Upscale One Pocket is good for beginners through intermediate players. The diagrams of the multiple rail shots is worth the admission.

I own about 40 books on pool and consider Koehler to be a great contributor to revealing many secrets of pool.

Excellent. Keepers both.

Knows a bit about sling shots too jack-koehlers-flat-kat-pro Slingshot-Shooting-Jack-H-Koehler
I've got both his books and I found them useful.

I thought this book was excellent for someone with experience playing the other games but is just starting to break into One-Pocket. This is a game most people discover last and I'm sure Jack was trying to bridge that divide with this book.

Koehler was an old friend of mine so I'm a little biased on this. He and I talked at length about One-Pocket before he wrote the book. No doubt I was one of his resources for gathering information on the game.

thats not the point of the op
eddie robins books winning one pocket and shots moves and strategy
are in a class of their own
both in info presented and price
but koehlers one pocket is a great book for your library and depending on your level will teach you alot
jnho

I've continued persevering and to be honest, chapters 6 and 7 arent too bad regarding strategy. I think the early part of the book made too many references to his other book, but it seems as you delve deeper into the book it gets better. It made me realise the less balls on the table the closer you can move whitey to your pocket...something I never thought about before.

Hopefully I can have a good experience now, thanks for all of your input guys :)
