Upstate New York pool halls?

In June I'll be driving between NYC and Canada and I'll have some extra time. Which pool halls are worth a visit? I see that Salt City Billiards is closed. It also seems that the pool hall in Waterville -- which I visited a while ago -- is closed.

Bob,
What is the route that you intend to take?

From South to North (mostly)

Newburg: Gallery Billiards
Endicott: Triangle Billiards and Guys & Dolls Billiards
Utica: Utica Billiards on the Boulevard
Syracuse: Brickhouse Billiards
Fulton: Fairway Billiards (only 7' tables)
Rochester: Diamond Billiards and East Ridge Billiards
Buffalo: Bison Billiards, Classic Cue and Hippodrome

I'm not familiar with any of the rooms in the Albany and surrounding area, though I do know that there are a few.

I'm confused by this thread which seems to say that Salt City Billiards is closing. My trip is in June, if that makes any difference.

We closed down the space noted, and have partnered with a local bar that has a big banquet space. Banquet space will have several big and small Diamonds in April, it should be sweet in time for your trip

(y) -- be sure and post the info when it's open.

LGA is south of the river if you want to see billiards that is available in Queens. New City, Cafe Uno, Break and Olympia billiards have been around for at least 30 years, same location. Maybe longer if I check records. All are in metropolitan areas, lots of convenience within walking distance.

Not sure what your path will be Bob, but I'm guessing you'll take the Thruway (route 87) north to Albany area, then switch to Route 90 west (also the Thruway) to Utica or Syracuse, then head north from there. I'm not far from that transition point from 87 to 90, so here's a couple places that I can suggest:

Sharp Shooters in Amsterdam. This is a stop on the Joss Tour, and it is within sight of Route 90 so not a big diversion from your path. I think the place is in the middle of being sold, but leagues still play and I know it's open. http://www.sharpshootersbilliards.com

Trick Shots in Clifton Park. This is a bit north of Schenectady in Clifton Park, but a nice room with a pretty popular night spot and eatery as a part of the business. https://www.wickedeateryentertainment.com/trickshots

Utica Billiards on the Boulevard. Another Joss tour stop, and run by Andrea, a woman that used to be at Hippo's before Vic closed. She's good people, and this is a nice place. http://uticabilliards.com/

Then out to Syracuse for Brick House Billiards. Yet another Joss Tour stop, and where we play a lot of our APA tournaments. https://brickhousebilliardscny.com/welcome/

Depending upon when you will be making your trip, or if this kind of pool interests you, but there is the Empire State Shootout at the Albany Capitol Center on June 24-25-26. It's an APA run event, all on 7" Diamonds and short races to 3, but big event for the area.

I'm sure others can offer other locations, but those are places that I've been to myself.

Loads of good players at Triangle in Endicott!! Bucky plays out of Triangle and we usually play $20 10 ball ring games. 3,4 or up to 6 players. Bill Hendrickson is there everyday. It would be worth the stop!!

I live in upstate NY, Fairway Billiards is run by some nice people, the town forces them to close at 8:00pm, they make it hard for a small business to make a living up here.

Thanks again for the suggestions. At this point it looks like I'll be able to briefly visit Syracuse, Utica and maybe Newburgh. Obviously, I should have scheduled another week. :(
