US Amateur Championships-Just an Opinion

Being that every participant get his/her own room that starts the cost at over $50000. But the bottom line is its a private business and people making their own choices to play.

If I could afford the trip and a $40 entry and then WON the tourney, I'd be a a VERY ecstatic and proud owner of a US Amateur Championships title! Only two are deemed that once a year. That to me is worth more than $5,000 prize any day. Life time achievement for us non pro's.

Sure, a nice payout would be an added bonus to this tourney. But if you want to make money, everyone knows playing pool isn't the way to go. ;)

I do admit, glad this same format of no cash isn't the case for ALL other tournaments. :p But for this one tourney, I don't mind.

I played in it several years ago. There isn't a qualifier close to where I live. The closest is 8 hours away in Chicago or 9 hours away in Denver. When I qualified then, the finals were on the east coast. It was a very expensive tournament to play besides the entry. With that said, it was a very fun tournament. It was about the competition and not about the money. There were no savers, just plain competing by some of the best amateurs in the country. I haven't played in it since because it's just too expensive but if I could qualify locally, I would play in it again.

I like rule #5 of rule of participation: " All players are encouraged to seek sponsorship to help pay the cost associated with participating in the US Amateur"

I wonder how many palyers receive any money participate?

U S Amatuer

Well said MOJOE , STEVEA and others. It is pretty easy to read all these post and realize why pool is where it is and Golf and other sports are where they are. People pay hundreds of dollars to travel and play every year in the (Golf) US Amatuer , US Public Links Championship, State Amatuer Open Championships , ect ,ect. and get no cash payout !!

I don't know anyone who has qualified for the finals of the US Amatuer Pool that did not have a great time . I have been fortunate enough to make it three of the last four years and look forward to this year as well . So many of the folks on this post haven't even read all the post because many of their questions have already been answered on the post but yet they ask Where does all the money go?
Promotion, brochures , ect. travel for all the Apa staff that put on the venue, provide the officiating , the production crew that telecast the event LIVE ,lodging for them and 130 finalist at 3 days of Hotel 3 x 100 or more, some nice free food paid by APA .
If it is such a fat deal maybe all you naysayers and critics should get together and put on your own tournament and make all the cash !! let us know when and where it will be and how much the pay out will be !!
Thanks Nicole Dunn and many more for a great fun venue.
