US Open (9 ball) 2024, August 19-24, Atlantic City

Yeah they'll also show Shane's (atleast) 5 wins including the only person to win 3 in a row. Shane's got plenty of time to get number 6.

Sure, and I hope he does. I am not knocking either player. I just don’t think Gorst’s win should be discounted

Absolutely not, I predicted a Shane/Gorst final and it happened. I didn't really care who won because I was happy with either. I would've liked for Shane to get 6 to shut up the haters, that's all.

Fedor is probably the best current player out there. Shane is the GOAT of those still playing. Both are allowed to be true at the same time.

This year I think Shane showed that he is far from done- he is still a threat to win any tournament no matter who is playing. He took down some great players- Shaw, Filler, etc.

That's nonsense. Everyone knows about the "color of money" match between Earl and Efren. If someday Fedor is considered among the greats, that money match and subsequent matches will definitely be known and talked about.
Most modern-day fans don’t know much about the Earl-Efren match. If the z shot took place during that match, it’s all I really know about It. And I am super up to date on the current state of pool.

I will always remember the race to 120 because I saw every single game. But I will also remember that Fedor beat Shane in the race that SVB really wanted.

I was pulling for SVB, especially since I am unsure he will ever get another chance. Too many good players nowadays. But Gorst earned it and his accomplishment should not be belittled. There was no wearing of shorts in the U.S. Open. The pressure was entirely different.

Fully agree.

By my count, the added money was 46% of the prize fund this year, or nearly half. That already seems pretty good. How was the percentage in the old days?
I was curious, so I looked at a couple of previous US Opens under previous management.

2010 $50k added of $178k = 28%
2017 $40k added of $200k (or so) = 20%

As close as I can figure the 2024 European Open had 68% added money but was only $250 to enter and had a total of $200k prizes.

I’ve got to think SVB can play at a high level at least till he is 45. Most players age out rapidly after that, but maybe he will be more like Tom Brady. Heck, David Alcaide is still going pretty strong at 45.

No, the famous Z kick was not in the Color of Money race to 120, it was in a tournament in the prior year, 1995.

Shane is off and on depending how he feels.

Last time he was at Oscar’s he got his ass handed to him. This was last month. The worst beating I’ve seen him take.

EDIT: It was Jeremy Long who took his soul.

If I remembered someone said he forfeited and took his cue and smashed all the balls away. 😂

It may be marketing/social media playing (which Fedor seems to be adept at), but it’s looking like the “American” trio of Fedor/Shane/Skyler are all now in fairly tight with each other.
