US Open 9-ball updates thread..

You walk in the casino and they have an entertainment budget to attract people to come to the casino.....typically singers and comedians... a sporting event is highly more efficient at bringing in the gambling crowd....especially pool...

Wrong. Big-name entertainers bring in way more money. Rodney Carrington was/is one of the largest draws of any entertainer out there. That's why his home casino, MGM Grand, pays him over 800thousand for three days work. Only sporting events that bump the casino take are boxing and MMA fights. Look, pool is a MINOR blip on 99% of casino goer's radar.

I live in casino-packed state, Oklahoma. They are full EVERY nite regardless of who's at them. I seriously doubt casino's have any interest in 'saving' pro pool. Card players outnumber pool players by a factor of AT LEAST 20/1, probably way higher.
Pool to a casino is just another convention. Bring people in and they will drop a bunch of cash in the casino plus hotel revenues, rooms, eating and so on. We don't really care what the casinos motive is, we still benefit.

It's an interesting concept and I can see why people like it as a gambling game, there is obviously a high level of skill and strategy involved, but I struggle to see it appealing to a mass audience.

I'd potentially give it a go to play, but even then I can imagine the pace of the game could be frustrating.
Bet enough and you'll be interested. Game is worthless without something riding on it.

Exactly. They'll make $$ regardless of who's there. Unless some casino big-wig is die-hard pool nut you're not going to see them trying to dig pool out of its yrs long doldrums. All they know is $$$ and if outfits like Matchroom can generate the #'s then they'll listen.

Does anyone know who is in the booth with JJ & Phill Yates? Nick... not sure about last name. Mentioned he lives in Vegas, I like his delivery and style.

Yes, it’s Nick Schulman. Agree they are very good together.

Commentators mention that Incardona said Yapp reminds him of the Miz. JJ says Miz had the greatest stroke in his opinion (I agree).

However, Yapp more reminds me of Buddy. Yapp has settled down and really looks good. Nice rhythm, keeps it simple, great stroke.

The poker player? I like his delivery and how he draws in JJ and Phill.
