US Open Payouts

I really think they should rework the payout structure for the US Open.

Here's the current payout structure-

1st place $40,000
2nd $15,000
3rd $10,000
4th $8,000
5-6 $6,000 each
7-8 $4,500 each
9-12 $3,000 each
13-16 $2,000 each
17-24 $1,500 each
25-32 $1,250 each
33-48 $1,000 each
49-64 $750 each
65-96 $500 each

Usually tournaments only pay out a quarter of the field. If they got rid of the 65-96 getting their money back they would have an extra 16000. They could then raise the 2-8th payouts quite a bit more. I think this would be more appropriate. Otherwise you really don't make any money unless you get 4th place or better. Plus there is way too big a difference between 1st and 2nd. When I go to a tournament I don't want to get my money back. I'm either looking to win money or not place.

I like it too, but it's not up to me. Barry makes that call. He likes paying deep.
 
I like your idea, but I also see Barry's side of it too where more players get money. It's Barry's Tournament and it's impossible to please everyone, if he changed it someone would complain about that so sticking with his current structure is probably where it will remain.
 
I normally don't care about these what pays what threads, but if you're going to really change the payout scheme, why not cap the payouts to the top 32?

Look at how much more every spot would be making. Doing that brings an extra $28,750K available, then you could bump the top 8 spots to:
1st 50k
2nd 28k
3rd 20k
4th 13,750
5/6 8.5k
7/8 6k

Leave the rest as it is.

I guess then it'd be one of those "top heavy" tournaments; which i'd be okay with; it's only one of the biggest events in the industry, right?

Of course, if someone were to enter a us open and finished 33rd, i bet they'd be pissed. lol
