Anyone know what the deal is with the shot clock on
the tv table. Yesterday they used it in all but 2 of the games,
and today it ran in one and not the other game (so far).

Are they using a shot clock everywhere in the
tourney?
thanks Mrs.G

ps - how is Jay Helfert doing?

That is odd. They didn't use it when it was Rota and Smith but they are using it now between Morgan and Trun.

I think I heard Jay Helfert or someboday say on one of the podcasts that the shot clock would be used "if" they "thought" players were playing too slowly or if someone complained. I may be wrong, but I recall reading or hearing that somewhere.

Are the people who were timed considered "slow" players?

Gonna have to guess here, as I have no idea what rule is in use.

Customarily, a match goes on to the shot clock if it has not progressed beyond a certain number of racks in a pre-specified period of time.

For example, in WPBA play, the rule was that nine racks had to be completed before the one hour mark and if this was not accomplished, the match went on the clock.

Hence, some matches end up on the clock and others don't.

In the last match I only saw a couple of shots that got anywhere near the 40 second limit and both looked pretty complicated. I was only about half watching it while on a conference call though.

This is the exact thing i heard! but curious to know if other matches are using the clock?

Thanks for the answers, They used the shot timer on all the TV table games tonite
but the last one. Makes no sense. Fair should be all or none.
Maybe tomorrow they will explain it from the tourney.

Didn't use the clock in the last match of the day last night either. Could they be using the clock to keep the TV table on schedule? Last match doesn't make any diff on how long it takes.

Yes. I believe that is the reason.

I think they are using the shot clock for streamed matches only on the "full production" matches. Those are the ones with the full crew doing their thing to ultimately have a dvd of the match.

Some of the matches are just for the internet viewers, and fewer people are involved. For those it seems that the time keeper is one of the absent people.

Regardless of what is happening with the streamed matches, I think the Tournament Director can impose a time clock on any match if he deems it appropriate.
