US Open vs Million Dollar Shootout

Read on the website for US Open that when BB decided to put up the US Open he hoped that he would get 16 players.

Barry Behrman's dream to take 9-Ball, Pool and Billiards to a new level still today becomes a reality as the field stands strong from around the world. Never could have imagined it lasting 33 years and going.

Started in 1976 and Held at Q-Master Billiards in Norfolk VA. Behrman had 15 Players and was praying for a ?full field" at that time of 16 and got it at the last moment.


It just made me think about the Million Dollar 9-ball Shootout that had 12 players this year. Wonder how many players they will have after 33 years?

Different circumstances. Barry was trying his first Open in his pool room if I recall well. Maybe Barry had not envisioned the event to be as Grand as it is today.

On the other hand, the expectations for the Million Dollar Shootout was more than 12 players. In essence, I would call the event a failure, although it was the Players that did not respond well to Allen's proposal.

Players want lots of money without having to put up or work much for it. Sponsors need something in return for their $$$.

A tremendous amount of work will be needed to make the Million Dollar note-worthy by the Players. I don't know if it will exist in 33 years.
