Have fun Marissa.

I'm not going. I'm still boycotting UPA sanctioned events. Although they seem to want to work with Barry at the US Open, they still have a tournament booked the same weekend as the Derby. I'm sure everyone will have a ball in Chesapeake. I'll be rooting for Keither (Earthquake) McCready.

I'll save my money and be able to sweat a few more maches by putting more bets on the rail in Louisville.

I'm planning on being at the DCC also. I look forward to meeting you then :)

Thanks for the good wishes for Keith, Mike. I'll be rooting for him, too! :D

I just bought a new used laptop today, gearing up for the tournament trail, so I can keep connected with the rest of the world while I am away from home. I am posting on AzBilliards for the first time on this laptop just to make sure everything works on it. So far, so good, except I have always hated the laptop keyboards, made for midget fingers. Laptop mouse is difficult for me to navigate. I can't fly on a laptop like I can on a regulation-size keyboard (LOL), but when I'm on the road, I always bring my own keyboard and mouse for work.

BTW, the Holiday Inn which is the host hotel has a computer right there in the main lobby and is available to all.

For those going to the U.S. Open, get plenty of sleep before you make the trek because once you arrive, there will be non-stop competition, good times, and a whole lot of fun.

I'm kind of digging this new laptop. It is better than my Sony which was stolen out of a motel room in Albany, and it only cost 400 bucks! Remember, NEVER leave anything of value in a hotel room because, if it gets stolen, the hotel may claim the Innkeeper's Statute which means you won't get reimbursed for your loss. In my case, I started writing letters, e-mails, and made numerous phone calls to the authorities, and I eventually was reimbursed for the cost of my stolen Sony laptop. Just a word of advice to all.

I'm not a big fan of the UPA and I love the Derby but the UPA has scheduled their event in L.A. at the same time for the last two years and it was right before the Derby. THE DERBY moved up their starting date which conflicts with the UPA event, so I don't think the UPA should be blamed for this one. I don't know the reasoning for moving up the date of the Derby but they had to know it would conflict with the UPA event and it might just help to kill the UPA event, so unless there is some good reason for moving up the Derby I would not blame the UPA.

Your sentence structure, sans your use of punctuation, reminds me of BJT.

I'll be there! And I'm counting it all down! Six weeks on Sunday is when I fly out to Virginia to go watch my first Open! I can't wait! :D

See you there!!!

I go every year with one of my best friends. We spend the week in Chesapeake and have a ball watching the Tournament matches and the action at Q-masters. My friend and I get in some table time playing 9 ball at Q-masters and have a great time during the week. I wouldn't miss it!

I would have def gone if I had been lucky enough to have been chosen by AZ to represent them. However I am still keen to go to this event and the World Summit, hope to see you all there if I do.

PS
Good luck Black Balled :-)

TheOne, at least the World Summit and the U.S. Open are back to back in September. If you can make it to the East Coast in August, there are some great pool tournaments in this time frame as well. Right before the World Summit is the $30,000-added Carolinas Open in Goldsboro, North Carolina, the beginning of September. In August, you have the $15,000-added Big Apple in NYC and the $25,000-added Joss Tour Season Finale in Verona, New York.

There are MANY regional tour weekend tournaments. The Florida Pro 10-Ball Tour events are usually $8,000-added, and weekend trips like these are quite economical to attend.

AND there's still a few U.S. Open qualifiers to be had, just ripe for the taking! ;)

Wayne, last year there was a post which listed all the dates for DCC out until 2008 – 2010 or so. Wish I knew how to easily find it. I think it was under a UPA thread. Anyway, I don’t believe the DCC event intentionally booked to interfere with the UPA event.

I wanted to go to the open just to watch, but I decided to save up the rest of the year until DCC 06, so I can watch that one instead. Anyone else going?

He used lowercased and capital letters.

I may be there for a few days...it's to close not to go, but then again you never know what could happen. It is to early for commitment. :p

I'll be there from Wednesday through to the end, as usual. :D

Although I'm much more active with the CCB group, I would certainly like to meet all of my AZB friends too. :D
After all, many are the same people. :D :D

So....whadjagit??

Because of needing to shut down in a full DOS prompt, I had to have a Windows 98 operating system as opposed to the Windows XP. Windows XP gives a DOS prompt, but it doesn't work properly with my transcription software. I got a Pentium 3 Hewlett-Packard with 256 RAM, a 56K modem AND a high-speed connection slot for hotels, 14.1 screen, and 6.0 hard drive. For $379 plus tax, I think I got a great deal. I loaded everything up, and it is actually FASTER than my desktop computer with 512 MB SyncDRAM whatever the hell that is. :p

It's hard to believe in this day and age, but many of my counterparts in D.C. who transcribe are still using WordPerfect 5.1 in DOS. The transcription industry seems to be stuck in the dark ages when it comes to high tech, but when you have to take your hands off the keyboard and use a mouse, it slows down the page production. Court reporters get paid by the page.

I like being able to take my work on the road, and this laptop is going to provide me an opportunity to make money. PLUS, I will be giving daily updates while I'm at the Open for the AzBilliards' inquiring minds back home! :)
