USBA is Crap

Usba will change

Why Haven't the Board of Director [I won't Name] of USBA done more on AZ Billiards Forum to promote 3 Cushion Billiard.

Bob Watson [Once a member, now a non member--- but will alway support the ladies or junior 3 Cushion billiard] No Respect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ZZZZZZ

Btw I will support what Dieckman or Paul Frankel would!!!!!!!!! If ask!!!

Sometimes BILLIARDSHOT [who I know as Bobby The Mole--he izzzz my mole on AZZZZZZZZZZZZZ] gets a little carried away.

The USBA is not crap, at least the people who are trying to make it work are not, but the structure of the organization, which is out-dated and antiquaited is. I should know, as I have been a member since 1973--ABA/BFUSA days before the USBA, so of course I am part of its current sad state of affairs. [I find it interesting that their is more discussion by the big mucky-mucks of the USBA on AZ than there is on their own forum about the organizations problems].

AT ANY RATE: two things I want to say.

1: BILLIARD SHOT: make sure you know shit from shinola next time you talk....I know your heart is in the right place but some time you go overboard....still luv Glinda The Good....and even u now that I really think about it.

2: DEAR MEMBERS OF THE USBA:

As I have been NOMINATED and SECONDED I guess I am running for President. And if I am running then I want to win. If I win, then I, as your president, will try to do the following things:

1: MAKE EVERY MEMBER FEEL GUILTY IF THEY DO NOT DO OFF THE TABLE WORK FOR THE USBA. That is, so what how good you play [or so how bad]??? So what how much time you spend practicing???? So what how much time you spend learning systems??? So what whatever ?????? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR THE GAME OFF THE TABLE.........that is what counts in my mind. WE, THE USBA need people to work, NOT TO PLAY. It simply comes down to how much do you really love the game, not how good you are. The future is more important than the present or the past. Let us plan for the future, not bemoan the past............
2: MAKE THE DECISION MAKING PROCESS OF THE USBA MORE TRANSPARENT:
that is, every decision that The B of D needs to vote on, will be presented to the membership on The Forum, at least 14 days before The B of D votes, so that the members may make their views known to The B of D, BEFORE THEY VOTE, rather than after. IS THIS NOT HOW OUR CONGRESS OPERATES ????
3: ESTABLISH A HALL OF FAME COMMITTEE: to determine the parameters for admission as well as categories. I would ask both Mike Shamos and Robert Byrne to be members of this committee, as well as welcoming any other member of The USBA who wished to participate in this OFF THE TABLE WORK to join with them.
4: ESTABLISH AN ENDOWMENT COMMITTTEE: to look into the possibility of establishing such a thing for the future benefit of The USBA and its members. I would ask Edward Weller, Ray Mortell, Joel Welber, David Levine and Richard Helmstetter to be members of this committee, as well as welcoming any other member of The USBA who wished to participate in this OFF THE TABLE WORK to join with them.
5: WORK STRONGLY WITH OUR CURRENT SEC/TREAS [Jim Shovack] TO IMPLEMENT THE CHANGES IN THE USBA THAT HE SEES AS IMPROVING THE ORGANIZATION:
A: Re-organizing the governing structure of The USBA along the lines of The PGA of America.
B: Establishing a handicap system for the members of The USBA along the lines of The USGA Handicap system.
C: Making The USBA web site MULTI-LINGUAL, in consideration of the many in this country who play the game and who may not have good English Language skills, and thus are left out of the organization as a result of this lack.

It has been a “tradition” of our organization that only the very rich get elected to be president of it. Being OLD and WHITE seems to help also. Well, I am old and white, BUT NOT RICH. Please do not hold that against me. Some things I can bring to the table are cues. If elected, and probably even if not, I will be donating some to The USBA, to raise money, but not nickels or dimes. BIG BUCKS !!

My warmest regards and best wishes,

Dennis Dieckman

Making The USBA web site MULTI-LINGUAL

U.S. carom players are overwhelmingly either foreign born or first generation citizens who speak English as a second language...SMART.

MAKE EVERY MEMBER FEEL GUILTY IF THEY DO NOT DO OFF THE TABLE WORK FOR THE USBA.

Chastising those who voluntarily belong to any organization is counterproductive...NOT SO SMART.

Rewarding members would be a better option.

Dieckman Sayzzzz

Well, I have been pretty much all over the country over the years and been in many, many rooms where the primary language is not English, and have truely enjoyed myself and been welcomed as just another frustrated billiard player. So smart I don't know about, but well travelled, yes.

Chastising those who voluntarily belong to any organization is counterproductive...NOT SO SMART.

Rewarding members would be a better option.

I even chastise them to their faces, especially those who moan about the sad state of the game, and all they do about it is continue playing their same sad 0.650 game, acting snooty to pool players when asked about the game. Seen it all to often. Those people deserve chastising. ASK NOT WHAT I CAN DO FOR THE USBA, BUT WHAT WILL THE USBA DO FOR ME is not an attitude I tend to like, and am not afraid to say so. I stick by that comment but also agree that it is probably "NOT SO SMART" to say so, at least if you want to win friends and influence people. I would rather try to get a job done, than be mr nice guy, and that offends the overly sensitive, well, so be.

Keep posting tjDave......whether you agree with me or not, I do value opinions other than my own.

Congratulations Dennis and thanks for taking it to the next level.

Here's a little excerp from the ABA Handbook posted by Bob Jewett.

A l l beginning players w i l l , within
the early moments of play, find themselves
being inducted without ceremony
into a club formed by Harry Sims
with automatic irrevocable membership
called the " B i l l i a r d Detective Club".
This happens when players inquire
of others how shots are to be played.
They then become b i l l i a r d detectives.
The inquiries force the teacher to
c l a r i f y and improve the instruction
and information being offered so that
both sides benefit! Soon those that
were the seekers w i l l be the givers
to others, and that is how 3-cushion
b i l l i a r d s goes on and on.

Spoiled!

I am totally spoiled! Any time I wish to play I can just drive down to Chris's in Chicago, and there is ALWAYS someone to play with. The carom tables are used constantly, and in fact see more use than the pool tables at times. They have handicapped tournaments on the first Sunday of every month. Carom is alive and well at Chris's..

Chris's is pretty far from me, but this is tempting. Can you tell us a little more about the handicapped tournaments? What time on Sundays? How many players usually participate? Games to how many points? Single elimination or double? Entry fee?

I don't mind getting shellacked - this is a learning opportunity.

Sure!

You'll have to pay an annual fee of $35.00 and then it is (I think) $15.00 for the tournament no more for sure. Eric runs them and they start on Sunday morn around 10am. Warm up is free and they open at 9am. Games are to 25 points single elimination and there are usually between 12 and 20 players. Hope that helps or you can just call and leave a message for Eric to call you back, he is pretty good with the handicapping also. I am not very good myself and have played twice and gone out in the first round both times. But I feel the rank is pretty fair and he keeps a close eye on all players that are new. Pretty well run IMO..
Dan

What is usually the payout? The local tournament is what we need to keep 3Cushion alive. I wish more Azers' would share their local tournament information too. To make 3 cushion grow and for those that might be unaware. Thank Dan

Thanks, Dan. I'm in. See you there. I'll be the short bald guy with the cue in my avatar.

Before last April of this year I lived in Huntington Park, which is a city next to the city of L.A. between the 710 freeway, 110 freeway, 5 freeway, and the century freeway ( the freeway that goes to L.A.X.). Near my hometown there are two billiard halls on the same street (Atlantic). Eight-ball billiards in Maywood has if I remember two tournaments per week. One tournament on Wednesday night, and one Sunday night. I played in the Sunday night tounaments a few times.

14 heated Verhoevens at Eightball billiards. Beware they put wax on the balls.

The tournaments are handicapped by a fellow who works there and is a good player in his own right nicknamed "Teacher". I believe "Teacher" is the brother of the guy who manages Eightball and he is married to the Daughter of the guy who owns the place ( a Former Boxer). One fellow who helps a lot with organizing and making charts is George Aeroneck. I am one of the worst players so my handicap was only to 17 points while the better players go to thirty something.

My Spanish is limited but I understood that players came as far as Santa Ana in Orange County, Montclair in the Inland Empire, and Santa Monica on the Westside.

There is a kitchen in the billiard hall but during a tournament, so many people ordering food, it is best to eat across the street at Douglas Burgers.

The cost to enter the weekly tournament is ten dollars, when you lose you must pay the table time which is a flat ten dollars. So twenty dollars net cost.

I think there is a weekly tourney down the street at Southgate billiards. They have eight heated Verhoevens and they do not use wax.

Saturdays at Mi Officina in Montclair California in the afternoon there is a tourney but not sure if it is every week. A lot of the players that play at the tourney in Montclair show up at Eightball for the tourney on Sunday night.

Both Southgate and Eight ball billiards have been USBA tour stops in the past. Hopefully they will be USBA tour stops in the future also.

I remember going to a USBA Nationals one year at South Gate a long time ago, was the first year Sang Lee did not win, I believe Pedro won. I also saw the Nationals the year it was held at Eightball which for sure Pedro won that.

I think they have tournaments every once in a while at the Billiard hall in Santa Monica.

At the Famous Billiard hall in Bellflower California, "Hard Times" they have two Gabriel tables that are heated, but no three cushion tournaments at all :frown:?????

Hope this helps.

I run a monthly handicapped 3-Cushion tournament in Santa Monica, CA at House of Billiards (2 tables--one Gabriels, one Soren-Sogaard), which has been ongoing for approximately the last 4 years. $20 entry fee. Payouts vary, depending on the number of entries, but 1st place is usually around $100, give or take. Four places plus high run are paid. Usually, 12 to 18 players.

Love to Hear more on 3 Cushion Local Tournaments around all fifty States!!!! Even what other Azers' or Room Owner are doing to promote 3Cushion.

Question: Does the Room you play in Carry 3 Cushion items like Cue, instructional Videos or Books, have an 3C instructor or someone capable teaching the Game and it rule,or even picture of 3C players hanging on the wall???

Or a continue running 3C Tournament video on one of the Room TV?

Do the Rooms carry "ProfessorQBall" billiard magazine. the only magazine that truly carry 3C information.

Thank Dean_H and Bruce Warner for your input.

Let get 3C back on the Incline!!!!

Eight ball carries a lot of Schuler cues. I have also seen Adam cues like the Koboyashi model there, and of course the Helmstetters. There are also unofficial dealers that show up with Longoni cues or cues from Mexico such as "Villa Senor". The billiard hall also carries tips (moori) and gloves.

I have seen the "Billiardsystem" cds in Spanish and English sold there (50 $ per cd:eek:).

We used to have a guy named Pedro work there and he gave lessons until he decided to go live in San Diego.

I think Pancho Palofox and Salvador Diaz (Chavita) give lessons to those who pay. Jose Rodrigez gives lessons on systems that he knows for FREEE:grin:

Yes there are pics errr posters of three cushion players on the wall.

On TV is either Soccer (futbol), or American action movies dubbed in Spanish, or comedy shows where the adults dress up as children. I once brought in a Accu-stats match of Pedro vs. Shooni, had to haul in my own TV to do it. I don't think anybody in the place knows what accu-stats is.

Always a lot of Professor Q- ball magazines for free.

Question or answer??? For Jim Shovak or USBA BOD
Everyone on our email list receives emails about upcoming events and everything is posted on our website.

Is EVERYONE on your email List include Non-Members or Just Members. Since requirement to join The USBA Public Forum you must submit an email address.[See Link http://www.usba.net/memberlogin.asp?msg=LOR ]The reason for that question is I have receive application in the mail for membership and when I make a donation, I use email, but I have not to my Knowledge [correct me if I wrong] receive any email for 2009 USBA Events?

Your USBA Public should be more easy avialable for viewing, other than require register to view,[ See Link http://www.usba.net/forum.asp or http://www.usba.net/forum/login.asp?target=default.asp ] which is why there little traffic on your USBA forum!

Nothing formal going on in MD/ VA, AFAIK.

This more Crap from USBA.
Quota from USBA Tournament Calendar "There were 4 brand-new Vietnamese USBA members playing. Apparently, Houston has a large Vietnamese 3-cushion community that has been untapped by the USBA."

Read this http://www.usba.net/2009Qual-PQB-Galv-TX-9-11.asp

If Any USBA Member were to view the Billiard Room Nationwide section of USBA http://www.usba.net/USBABilliardRooms.asp?RoomName=&ContactName=&state=
just look at the first page and count the number of 4 x 8 carom tables.

Why haven't USBA tap this resource long before now??? Korean Four Balls Billiard.
If The USBA is the governing body for all Carom Billiard
games in the USA
, in particular, 3-Cushion Billiards.
