Which tip should I buy, and should I buy a cue before I buy the tip?

Answer: Buy the tip with the most layers, the more layers the better it plays, and yes, you should buy a cue before you buy the tip

This thread has now became a grammar thing....
...the term, my good man, is "DE-railed.

Now, if you wanna discuss Disraeli.....

But the thing to always consider.......... If you drink and drive....have a car.

Speaking of cars... I was being chased by a cop and would not stop. After a few miles I thought I better pull over. He asked me way I was speeding and would not pull over . I explained that my wife ran off with a police offer about 5 years ago. I thought he was bringing her back.

One should buy the tip that gives one the desired response.

As to buying the cue before buying the tip, I would recommend doing so. Perhaps you have not considered the option of procuring an Meucci Red Dot Butt to which one could affix an OB shaft. Then the choice of tip would fall within the parameters of the butt shaft tip dynamic.

The cue is an amazing entity and will perform the desired function when fitted with the proper tip for the desired response.

If the ball pockets then one could consider it to have been the objectively proper shaft-tip combination but by what parameters?

Jack Nicklaus was probably the greatest clutch putter in the history of the game.

Have you ever heard of a piston or scissors stroke?

PS I am not a paper holding instructor & the above are just my observations & opinions based on my experiences. Please take them as you will.

Enough with the golf analogies Greg. I've been golfing. There is nothing hard about golf at all. They give you 18 holes to put the ball in. Most only need nine, some need all eighteen. First time out, I put the ball in the first hole in only about 20 minutes. Didn't even need the other 17 holes. Nothing to the game at all. All those lessons and gimmicks are just to rip off the unsuspecting.

Even though I have been advised to avoid discussions with you......:ignore::p

I am glad you did not get caught in the vortex created in the sinking of the ENGLISH!

(My apologies to Johnny Horton:)

Out of the cold and foggy night came the faction for the good
And every member poster, he knew and understood
They had to sink the ENGLISH!, the terror of the board
Stop those replies as big as steers and those posts as big as trees

If you want to discuss buying the most layers...you should be looking at a chicken ranch.

I just happen to have one for sale....

Perhaps we should consult the ultimate authorities on Disraeli. Anyone have Jack Bruce's phone number? How about Ginger Baker? Eric Clapton? Disraeli Gears strikes again!!!
