They wouldn't need to leave the board to try and get the last word in if they just learned how to argue/debate, and didn't get all bent when someone tried to make it personal.
To me, someone leaving the board because they can't cope is the ultimate sign of defeat. They obviously didn't have the skills to defend their position or themselves.

.

Yep. You got it. Debating is an art. One very necessary to be a politician. And it is a fun game. A lot of fun to take the opposite side just to see the reaction it invokes. Of course many people do not understand that. And it does bring out the bad side at times. The real art is to know when to let up.

The rule for debating, especially on a forum, is make your point and if someone else don't like it, BIG DEAL. We are all entitled to our opinion. Sometimes you run into someone with a different opinion, they change your's just a little, you change their's just a little and all of a sudden, you have a new friend. Have a great day, and don't take this so serious, it's just pool. The best game there is. Sam

Much better to argue your point either effectively, which then completely disarms all opposition. If it happens that you have a few that do not yeild. STOMP ON THEM!

Words are one of the most powerful tools that we weild. ESPECIALLY in a forum type setting. (it is really all we have) Better learn how to use them if you want to survive.
Your points are good, but some people join these forums simply to learn or have interesting discussions, not to win a debate. When someone is clearly wrong but goes with your "STOMP ON THEM!" strategy, I walk away from the thread (not the forum). I was never any good in debate class.

(snip) Oh well, I guess none of us are perfect.

I hesitate to use your own post to prove your point, but it should read, "...none of us IS perfect."

You are right about people coming on the forum to ask valid questions and gain information.
For someone that is clearly wrong, in order for them to attempt a STOMP, they need to have the skills which are needed to accomplish it. Otherwise, the more experienced communicators on the forum are going to rip them to shreds. (such as myself) :)

Obviously for someone to get empassioned over something relatively trivial reflects on that persons lack of understanding about what is a debatable topic or not. Otherwise, it is just hot air that accomplishes nothing.

If someone doesn't agree with ones opinion, isn't necessarily the reason for a serious debate, as everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

BUT, if someone is trying to pass something off as FACT, that leaves the door wide open for people to attack them, finding flaws with their arguments, or citing facts that counter their argument.

Facts, or for a better term...the TRUTH, can be quite controversial, and quite devastating, but nothing can stop it from being a fact, and therefore, impossible to defeat.

People need to learn how to choose their topics, so that they have a great chance to defend their position.
If they go and argue about everything, or take a position against their forum arch enemy/nemesis, while quite entertaining, can leave them open to repeating mistakes and subsequently being thwarted.
Plus, it can get a little bit redundant and takes up space that would be better filled up with useful information.

and if one loses and argument, BIG DEAL/SO WHAT. Turn off the computer and go get a beer.
Your not gonna see me fuming on my own time because i got chopped up in a debate. They need to learn to let it go, and learn from it.

Well-said! The first thread I posted in here I got double-stomped and ultimately DID turn off the computer and had a beer.

It was a "Jimbo/Fred" team effort, so I was in up to my neck (upside-down). Now I realize I was dealing with pros. :o

It's called a "swan song" and I have little patience for someone who needs that much attention.

Prima donna.

I typed both versions on Word with the grammar monitor on and they are both correct. The word "us" indicates plurality and that would make "are" acceptable imho. Now Jeff, I like almost all of your posts but really, if you start policing this board for grammar errors, you're going to be a very busy guy! And, I think, at least I hope, you will find much greener pastures out there than my posts. Now as DM would aptly say, "F@@& O@@"!!!

Just having a little fun. Please don't light up the flames.

I don't know what the big deal about getting off the forum is all about. I still think my way is the best. :D
LMAO, I have to agree with this... I'd rather go down in flames, while throwing flames. The game is more fun that way. :D

I must have missed that thread.

Would you mind repeating it so I can learn from you.

I need assistance from two of the other culprits to reproduce it exactly and one of them is permanently gone already.

You'll just have to wait for the next exciting adventure of...."DRIVERMAKER GETS BANNED"!!!

Your lies are not wanted here, the thread is there for all to read, you never got stomped. You are a moron who asked for advice and never took it (still to this day even after claiming you did) and you also cried and said you were leaving for good. From the number of posts you've made since your "grand exit" it's clear that you just want to see your name on the screen. Keep up the good work, just lose the lies, the martyr role doesn't fit so well. Keep bringing up my name in your lies and I'll continue to point out what a fool and liar you are.

Hi Rick...I missed your reply here...sorry for the delay. No flames, I was just thinking of the irony of your post so I responded to make a joke of sorts.

The word "us" is not the subject (right term???) of the verb; "[N]one" is. Therefore, with "[N]one" being singular (none = no one) the verb should be too, as in, "[N]one of us IS perfect." Take out the "of us" and try it.

If you said, "Not all" instead of "[N]one," then "are" would be correct, as in "Not all of us are perfect."

:D <<<<<<note smiley faces>>>>>>> :D
