USPS SUCKS!!! What do you do?

I had a cue ordered from a cuemaker. I got notice that it was being shipped thru UPS. Had the tracking number and followed the delivery, and a signature was required.

It arrived at our local UPS center and out for delivery. I sat near the front window watching TV waiting for the truck as delivery was usually around 1 pm.

I can usually hear the truck. I seen the truck 3 houses down the street. Also noticed the delivery person walking across the neighbors lawn toward my house, seen him on my porch and sneaking away after putting a notice on my door that I wasn't home and that I could pick up the item at the facility that is 15 miles away.

I ran out the door yelling and chased him down. He claimed that he knocked on my door and rang the door bell and that I didn't answer. I asked him if I did answer what was he going to deliver as his hands were empty. He said that he normally doesn't carry the packages as most times people aren't home. I alsked why he parked 3 houses away and naturally he claimed that he delivered some packages there and it was easier to walk to my house. That is bull as I seen them move their truck for one house and he normally parks in front of my house for our deliveries.

The real truth is that he didn't want to wait for me as I had to sign it.

I love my USPS. This year has been great for on time deliveries.

I will not use anything else. I still pay all my bills using the U.S Mail.

Not one piece ever lost. Love the free shipping boxes too!

Sorry about your luck!

Thats the stuff right there! A sitting box is like a sitting present waiting for a thief!

Well if you are expecting packages, it's easy to fill out a small form and have the post office hold all packages.

The post office holds all my packages and I just go pick them up.

having worked for the glorious USPS for a while, I suggest you always put a tracking number on it, or make sure the shipper does.

USPS Shipping

I always have sensitive packages dropped shipped to my local UPS Store...

They accept ALL carriers, package arrives safe and sound, no worries of getting wet, etc.

Typical charge is a $4.00 fee, must sign for package which is good, better than chasing the USPS in this case.

You will need to nclude your name and phone number on the ship to label, this assures your called when the package arrives.

Wasn't merchandise, was a corporate check and it's already been reissued. Just posses me off as multiple items going thru snail mail go " missing " every year. This has been an ongoing issue for some time. My regular mailman is getting up there in age and near retirement. He's taking more and more time off because they won't pay them for saved days. Usually whenever he's off we get these " subs " - not even real postal emoloyees. They are dressed in street clothes and honestly if I didn't see them in the mail jeep and saw them walking on ,your property ID toss them. They are retarded. I get mail from two roads over so I'm sure they get mine too lol.

Yeah, it seems that it is always a sub that messes up, and does something really stupid. I wonder, where do they find these people? I know I could do a better job then they do, at delivering mail.

The USPS has many options. Signature confirmation, registered, insured. If its valuable send it accordingly.I put cues in pvc tubes and insure.

The last cue I purchased was shipped via USPS Priority Mail with Signature Confirmation, and my mail man (or sub, who knows) just left it at my door step (at around 7:30 in the morning, in the freezing weather). Luckily, I went outside, and noticed it at around 9:30 am. When I opened it up, to check out my new cue, it was freezing cold (the cue), and I preyed that the freezing temp did not warp it. That shows how stupid USPS mail men are, to not see the Signature Confirmation on a shipment, and then just leave it outside a persons house. I do not live in a good neighborhood, so it could have easily gotten stolen, because there are bums walking by all of the time.

I never ship a cue USPS. Tracking usually is not available until the package has been delivered.

It is worth the extra money to ship Fedex insured. Shipped many cues over the years, not a single problem.

Also, be sure to pay the extra $5 for Direct Signature, or FED EX will just leave it at the door of the receiver (if nobody is at home), and they are not liable for the package after they leave it at the door of the receiver. So, make sure to pay extra for Direct Signature, unless you know for a fact that the receiver will be home and watching for their shipment (or if it is being delivered to a business or office, for example).

This is very true. I would recommend having things sent to you with signature required. This way if your not home they take it back to the post office. I do this with any expensive item now a days. It is sad to get an email that something has not come in for a customer. 90% of the time is it someone that goes through areas and apartments stealing off the door step. Insurance on expensive items is also a good idea, but it never quite replaces the fact that now your getting your stuff late. Sucks.... I hate thieves.

I think if the package is insured for over $200, then a signature is required anyways (for insured shipments over $200), so in that case, no need to pay extra for Signature Confirmation (just regular tracking, and Insurance, for over $200).

I've never seen any data that would provide a comparison. They all lose or damage something once in a while.

You get better tracking with UPS and FED EX, and the assurance that the delivery drivers will actually do their job correctly (unlike USPS, that seems to care less about their customers, and hires delivery drivers that do not know what they are doing, or how to do their job correctly).

Wow, that is crazy. The guy should be fired for that, I think.

You might change your mind someday, when they eventually screw up, and do something really stupid with your shipment. It is nice that you are one of the lucky ones, and I assume that most have not always been that lucky with USPS. They are a nightmare at times.

Sounds like a mail box at one of those Mail Boxes Etc places (who offer a mail box for a certain amount of money, per month)? I always assumed they were very expensive, for their mail boxes they offer.

Been waiting on something for a few weeks - found out Friday LOST. Pisses me off. Happens several times a year. In all honesty, with the volume they do its pretty amazing but still sucks. On a side note - just a reminder door front theft is rampant this time of the year. In a neighborhood ( a high dollar one ) not too far from me the cops pulled over a " suspicious " van and found 70+ stolen packages from that neighborhood. Cops were cool, they actually went door to door and redelivered the packages. Yall that are buying sticks online what do you do as far as delivery, sig etc? Whenever I have anything expensive or important I have UPS hold it at their facility for me to pick up as its only 20 mins from me.

Ignorance is Bliss.....

First off, the USPS will not just leave a package if it's insured for more than $200 or if Signature Confirmation is required. Many mailers want to save a few bucks on shipping and don't pay for the extra insurance.....not recommended.
The USPS is the ONLY shipper that does "REGISTERED" mail...I repeat, the ONLY shipper doing "REGISTERED" mail. This service requires that each individual touching the piece, has to sign for it. Every employee that literally touches it, has to sign....REGISTERED mail does not get lost.
On top of this, if you are insuring a piece for $1,000 or more, REGISTERED mail usually is the same or maybe a lil cheaper than regular Priority Mail with Insurance. Most people don't know that....
So, if you ever ship a high end cue, always use REGISTERED mail. The first time a person uses registered it's kind of a pain to tape it a special way with gummed paper tape but it is well worth it. Registered does not ever go through any machinery that will bend or harm the mail piece so it's very safe. It may take a week to get across country but rest assured it's in good hands. If one of these were to come up missing, the last signature is responsible for the value. Hence....these do not, I repeat DO NOT come up missing.

Chris Paradowski...32 years in the USPS and still going. I was a window clerk for almost 25 years. Currently work behind the scenes doing Supplies. Use Registered mail.
