USPS....

I have standardized on UPS
If for no other reason less stress
Every time I ship something post office there is some kind of stress involved and inevitably the buyer wants me to call them and check it out which is a pain in the ass

Other than having to go to the post office in sign a form for my new house to get my mail I haven't stepped foot in a post office in over 3 years
UPS doesn't screw up and they're tracking is way better
UPS doesn't damage packages

FWIW FedEx blows as well
The problem with FedEx is they're fine as long as everything goes right if you have to change something have them hold it for pickup if they lose something if they miss a delivery it's a nightmare and they'll just lie and lie and lie at least the postal service doesn't lie about it

My ranking goes like this
1) UPS
2) DHL
3) Drive the package cross country yourself
4) Give the package to a complete stranger who claims to be able to deliver anywhere in the world
5) USPS
6) FedEx
That shit is hilarious...for real though, UPS is the only reliable courier, Ive used DHL one time and I had a package come from France and it tracked the entire way and showed up on the originally scheduled delivery date.

My guess is new delivery algorithms. (They get the bulk through as quickly as possible, while you wait.)
They had petitions drawn up in my area it got so bad. That was 3 years ago and it still sucks. Rampant theft and ludicrous delays. Forget about trying to track something. Exercise in futility.

It is a gov agency, and unionized as well. I worked for 35 years in the local electrical utility industry, and we were Union workers, and I can't believe how many people hide behind the Union because they are lazy. Unions are great if they are used properly, but where there is the ability to take advantage of, human nature usually takes advantage. That, and being a federal entity, well, the writing is on the wall.

And the USPS hits just keep on coming. I mailed a package out on Monday. The destination was literally 2 hours, 9 minutes away from the PO where the package was dropped. Thankfully I paid for insurance and delivery confirmation. As of today, nearly 5 days later, I still can't seem to get any pertinent update from the tracking number. I called today to initiate an investigation as to the whereabouts of the package.
From now on, it's UPS for me.
🙃

Ive got 2 in purgatory, one shipped on the 4th and hasnt updated tracking a single time since it was deemed late on 2/8. The other shipped out 2/10 was supposed to be delivered today 2/14 and it has only updated 1 time but neither of them has ever scanned in anywhere, just "in transit"

Yep. That is where I am at. Needless to say, I'm less than pleased. I packaged the item in a box that they supplied. They then charged me an extra $18.00 dollars, on top of the priority charge, for an irregular package that they supplied!
🤪😳
Never again with these fools!
These asshats should have been privatized years ago.

Mine seems to show that it sat in the same PO for ~3 days, before it even made it to "in transit."
What a joke.
🤬

I just had a package show up two months after eBay seller refunded me. The box was empty! There should have been 25 hard bound books inside.

Sad, but typical.

I’m waiting on a sweet block letter Joss….shipped from WI to me here in MI. That’s basically a three day journey with UPS or FedEx. Look at this nonsense:

Hopefully you have better luck than the rest of us.
😳

i ordered a small item sized package from walmart yesterday. it arrived in less than one day by u.s. mail to my front door.

a lot depends on the package and how clearly it is addressed. and its size and shape and especially on the p.o. you start it from.
that's what the p.o. people have told me. and if it doesnt scan well it takes a slow route. and what i have experienced.

UPS charged me $13 to ship a cue, turned around and, without my permission, removed another $13 from my banking account because the cue was packed in a round tube.

This was likely caused by UPS working with eBay on the eBay sale. Maybe without eBay and PayPal as partners, no automatic deductions would have occurred.

This happened in October and UPS's website still does not warn you if your box is round while USPS’s website does. If UPS can automatically deduct the extra cost, UPS has little incentive to fix the website.

Costs for shipping a two-pound 36" x4" square box was the same whether USPS or UPS: $16 from NC to NJ

Insurance for $420 was the same: $8

UPS would pick up the item for shipping for a $15 charge while USPS would pick it up for free.

I use USPS

In 2012 the USPS reported a 15.9 BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! Then 12 years later, in 2024 the USPS lost 9.5 Billion!!!

A union run "business" that is protected by the government regardless of their financial losses. There are zero repercussions to their failures and inability to provide the services for which they are paid.

Perhaps this current string of massive nationwide failures is their attempt at finally saying "we are completely unable to perform this service any longer and it is time that the system/business was sold to a private entity".

Looking for a 1000 black and white loafers? They are not a shoe store

They can be found at the Post Office

the cue was packed in a round tube.
I cringe every time I read a statement like this. And every time I do it's always the same reply from me.....
NEVER EVER EVER EVER ship anything in a round tube. Simple scenario....say you're shipping a full length one piece cue in a round tube. Slide a triangle box over both ends and tape it, tape it good! (Devo did the song, I just changed the lyrics) LOL

As far as USPS...I'm sad to say I used stand firm with them. Shipped around the entire world using Priority International with zero problems for well over 25 years. Now I'm scared to. USPS priority used to be $3.85 for a small flat rate box when they first came out with this "priority" option. Granted, things have increased in the pricing but the service has been going straight down the hill since.

I too have had similar experiences as many in this thread have complained about. Taking 10-14 days to travel a route that used to be 2-3 days max. I've had packages that were shipped to me from distributors that were scanned in 50 miles from my house then zoom...off to Dallas, then to LA, then back to the SAME location 50 miles away and still take 3-4 days to get to my house. (weather has zero to do with this) When they are scanned in 50 miles away they have always been at my place the next day. Now it's a crap shoot.
Express Mail....guaranteed delivery in X amount of time or your money back. The last 2 times I've used them just to be sure it makes it on time I've received my shipping charges back. The only saving grace there is it's fairly easy to do so and they haven't held up the return process on that "yet."

It would not surprise me one bit if jobs in this dept aren't getting ready to be slashed and we all have to go to the local PO to pick up our mail and packages like back in the 1800's.
USPS has been moved to the bottom of my list and UPS has taken the top. Almost every time I've price compared UPS has also been less expensive. I don't care if it may take a day or two longer than the "suggested" time USPS is posting. At least it will get there!
