UV talk

 Your backyard a cave? or just being dramatic for effect?

QUOTE]
Not being dramatic, in the summer the humidity reaches around 80%, the air is heavy and without a breeze so any smell just hangs there, BBQ is great, but skunk and chemical smell not so much.

For those of you who are complaining about Solarez being the worst you've ever smelled, I challenge you to use some Awlgrip LP OUTSIDE. Solarez isn't in the same ballpark as most of the crap I've used in my lifetime...

No, thanks.
Solarez is bad enough.
Not as nasty as Nelsonite, but nasty enough.
Even the smell of linseed oil and Deft sanding sealer are nasty to me.
I put up with Deft sanding sealer on open doors. And I throw away the paper it's on to a sealed trash after use.
Even if Solarez smells good. I won't use it. I don't like all that sanding.

You want something that really stinks?
Try shrimp paste in the microwave at work.
Everyone will leave the building.

Hey, maybe when you drive to Vegas one of these days, you can pick us up some SPI 1:1 4.0 VOC. :D

I have SPI VOC here if you'd like some

Got a quart. Did not like the commiefornia version while others swear by the 4.0 VOC mix. Takes way too long to flash, too soft and has an orange hue.
Not about to break the law so I bought what worked for me before. Before the local dealer dropped them too . Luckily Eastwood sells em now ( Pro Form Express clear ).

Anybody using auto finish without an air supply suit and separated, closed space for curing should speak with Dennis Searing. His story should scare the hell out of anybody. It wasn't the spraying the got him, but the off gassing that occurs for days after the finish has hardened. The worst of it is within the first 24hrs, but it still gasses for days. Spraying then sanding & polishing same day sounds impressive in conversation, but beware. Cues just aren't worth it. Everybody thinks they're safe.....until they're not. As meticulous and careful as he is, it still got him. No matter what you use or how you do it, make sure you are doing it the safest possible way.

My guess he waited because he was using a water based coating that needed time for the water to evaporate before hitting it with the light.

And Varney was dead months after starting to use super glue for finish in a closed room.
I'm very aware of what happened to Dennis. I have a bucket outside where I store drying cues.
You think some cue makers are bad ?
A friend took me to his friend's paint shop in Long Beach. They refinish used cars for a car dealer nearby. They do a ton of business. They spray quick drying clear they can buff the same day.
They were just walking through clear coat cloud all over the place.

We should wear gloves too when using thinner and alcohol.

No, some auto clears are better when you let them sit for 4-5 days before buffing.

Spooky stuff. Just because it doesn't get you right now doesn't mean it won't catch up to you. I have gotten to where the most toxic chemical I have is epoxy. And I don't handle anything except elmers school glue without nitrile rubber gloves. My worst fear is that I make somebody else sick.

Proper spray booths are worth the money. For those making thier own exaust system. I have a question.
WHY ARE YOU USING STOVE PIPE? Please ask yourself that.
