Mini tournaments

I didn't get a chance to go there last year but I remember a room about 20 minutes away called Markley's that had stuff going on everyday. I was told in the past that they opened up the weekend before the Expo and never closed until after the Expo ended. If you try to go, bring a gas mask, the smoke was so thick, it was like walking in to a fog bank!

Is there smoking inside the expo?
I've heard that there won't be which is great. I'm an on again off again smoker and even when I do smoke, I couldn't stand it down stairs it was so bad. The last that I heard, it will be non-smoking downstairs this yr. They stopped the smoking upstairs last yr or the yr before but you could still smoke downstairs and it was baaaaad.

2 months to go, I'm pumped...who's goin? Who's playin? Who's partyin?

This will be the 8th year for me...actually played last year with a team we put together (TAP League) we did reasonably well for not playing together as a team but the cigarette smoke was a killer in that basement...so I won't be doing that again. Hoping to land a good deal on a Gus Szamboti instead of the five or six cues (different makers) that I usually buy. Hang out, see old friends, shoot some friendly games and watch the Pros do their thing.

It's kinda like dying and going to pool heaven...

Regards,

Please don't let that stop you, if you enjoyed playing in the event. It will be different this yr and much more pleasureable without the smoke. :)

I'm an ex-smoker, i can handle the smoke, but my wife on the other hand may not be allowed in a smokey room ;) :D ;) .

LOL, I know what you mean but I'll be damned if I "get it". That's the only place I've ever seen that and for some reason, it just doesn't grab me like a good match up on a 9 ft table after listening to some great woofing. :p

I agree. The Super Billiards Expo itself is worth making the trek to Valley Forge. There is an abundance of vendors, and if you need something or just like to look at stuff up front and close, this is the BIGGEST event of its kind.

Then, of course, you have the pro event, pro/am tourney, the ladies competition, the amateur tournament, the seniors, and both junior events. There's a little something for everybody, and players of all caliber get to strut their stuff.

Speaking of smoke, here's a snapshot of the infamous action table on the lower level! I think the decision to make the SBE non-smoking on the lower level may be a good move, IMHO!

What's very cool about the SBE is the opportunity to check out various competitive events which are all happening simultaneously.

MANY people enjoyed hanging out at the InsidePOOL suite. They had an open bar and some munchies, and it gave each and every one there -- players, authors, industry members, and fans -- the opportunity to mingle and chat. Shannon Daulton was the life of the party when I was up there. He actually performed a couple of songs for us. He was so much fun last year.

Yep, no smoking is the way to go. I smoke, and it bothered me, too! :o

Here's another snapshot I took while sitting in the pit at the action table! Aside from the smoke, the spectators do enjoy partaking in the action table festivities. :D

Oh, be sure to wear comfortable shoes because the venue is huge. I think, subject to check, that Greg Sullivan told me that he installed over 100 bar boxes on the lower level. I must have walked 10 miles each and every day, up and down those stairs, but we sure did have a blast!

Here is a picture of the 2005 SBE Amateur Tournament Winner, North Carolinian B.J. "G.I. Joe" Ussery. He was on fire last year, and it was no surprise for me to see him come out on top.

I've gotta say that each and every trophy at the SBE were the most beautiful I have ever seen, bar none.

Note that this snapshot was taken on the no-smoking UPPER LEVEL!

Funny story about that.... He tried to get in the pro event and couldn't. It was full & it had a waiting list. There was some controversy over the waiting list that I won't go into because I don't remember the story & it wouldn't be right to tell it incorrectly. Either way, BJ was a little upset and asked what else he could play in and they told him the amateur event... he snapped it off of course.... LOL, he should've been playing in the pro event.

We learned the hard way about not getting the entry fee paid WELL IN ADVANCE for the pro event at SBE one year. It won't happen again in my camp! :o

The pro event fills up very early each and every year.

"Think long, think wrong," as they say! :p

LOL, I learned the same lesson about getting a hotel at the Scanticon or the Radisson.... I went to Philly for Easter last yr (approx 3 wks after VF) and stopped by the Radisson and made my reservation then. I understand it's sold out already.... it's still two months away.
