valley forge open winner

Congrats to Danny Barnes. Thanks for making it to the finals after beating me haha. Barnes played some jam-up pool.

Just so you know...

It looks like they are taking $35 out of every $75 entry for an expo pass. That's almost $30,000! HELLO!!!! Good work if you can get it.

So that leaves $34,000 in prize money. Wonder how much of that actually got paid. It's the only tourney I know of where the players must pay to get into the tournament area. I could kind of understand a $15 greens fee out of the $75 entry. That would leave a healthy $50,000+ purse. Now you could pay the winner $10,000! And the promoter would still be getting a very healthy $12,750 in greens fees. What's wrong with that? That's a winning formula in my book.

It will always go against my sense of fairness to see players being taken advantage of. But that's just me. I see all this stuff go on and I'm too dumb to keep my mouth shut.

-------

The math here is pretty bad
850 players x $75= $63,750

1st $5000
2nd $2000
3rd $1500
4th $1500
5th $1000
6th $1000
7th $1000
8th $1000
thats $14,000

The first level of in the money started about where? Do you know what they paid down to?

A little on the light side if you check my post above. They would have to pay pretty deep to even get the total purse up to $34,000. I wonder???

Jay - aren't you a promoter? If so, you know the payouts discussed above aren't complete or accurate, so why start controversy? So, to settle any concerns, here is the breakdown:

The entry fee is $75. This includes a 4-day pass for $25 to the 100,000+ sq ft facility that houses 140+ Diamond Barbox Tables and a sea of vendors and exhibitors. Pool tables in the practice and action areas cost 25 cents/game. All others are free, including those used for minis.

So, $50 goes to the prizepool. Pay attention Jay, here comes the math:

856 Players x $50 = $42,800

1st - $5000
2nd- $2000
3/4th : $1500 Each - ($3000 paid out at this level)
5-8th: $1000 Each - ($4000 paid out at this level)
9-16th: $750 Each - ($6000 paid out at this level)
17-32nd: $595 Each - ($9520 paid out at this level)
33-64th: $430 Each - ($13,760 paid out at this level)

Add it all up, you'll get $43,280 paid out.

Now, I know you will complain that the payouts aren't top heavy enough. So what happens? More people get to play and have a chance at making some money and having fun for the weekend. Yes, some events in the industry are more top-heavy, but this isn't one of them. It is not intended to be one. We try to produce a fun event that anyone can come to and play in. An event where more people have a chance to make a decent amount of money for a relatively small investment. If a player wins 4 matches, hes in the money... at least $430.

A lot of people work very hard, and a lot of money is spent to provide the venue, equipment, promotion, and more. Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought you were a promoter, so i am confused why you - of all people - would try to start controversy over this? You know we pay more than 8 people, and you could probably figure we pay more than $34,000. But you don't want to take the time to do that, or call us and ask, do you? Instead you come to a message board and try to imply that we are taking advantage of people.

Our event is successful because the events are fun, the facility is great, and the people, fans and players alike, are excited, and things are organized well.

I could go on more, but I really don't feel your accusations merit much more of my time (I was working on getting our website updated with the results and info, and just stopped by here) I'm curious: Do you think the Diamond tables just come out of the floor in the Convention Center? Do you think the 5 full size semi-trucks that the pool tables arrive in are fueled by water? Do you think we press a button and steel girders drop down with pool table lights hanging from them? Or maybe you think the Convention Center just lets us stop by and use their facility all week at no charge? Or the 60+ people on our staff who work hard all week (taking time off from their regular jobs) to bring this fun and exciting event for pool players and enthusiasts to enjoy? We work hard to produce this event, and the people that come to play, relax, and socialize enjoy it and appreciate it. Yes, things aren't perfect, nothing in life is. But it is enjoyable, and no one is forced to sign up and play. Players sign up year after year because they have a good time and a fair chance to win some money. I don't think anyone plans to retire after this event, most go right back to their job on Monday morning, which is why we wind down all events on-time by 5-6 pm on Sunday, every year.

C'mon now. You know this game, you know how things work... all you're looking to do is start controversy. I actually feel kind of silly that I took this long to explain this now. Oh well.

I may be wrong about Price winning. I thought I saw his name listed on the winner's bracket but not sure now. I wasn't watching the match. I did watch the Eddie Abraham-Dennis Hatch Pro-Am match which was good, although Abraham never should have gotten there. His previous match with Joey Testa went to a third set with Abraham winning but Testa missed two critical shots that could have put him in position to win. Great match though. I'm not sure who won the Pro-Am final between Hatch and Mike Dechaine.

What was Dechaine playing the amateur open or just the pro-am playing as an amateur ?
