Sorry pictures are not great but please allow your valuations to be based on the cue being 100% condition.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

I had this Cue Long time ago in my Collection and treaded it VIRGIN:(
wish I NEVER let them go:sorry:

Im my opinion Paul Mottey was one of the very best cue makers

Balabushka,Szamboti,Mottey right at the top of the traditional
classic cue makers

But what about values guys?

The bad news, and I hate to break it to you: It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. And in today's market and with all the nits and lowballers on this site, and with all the restrictions with the sale of ivory, you are looking at a lot less than you might have gotten for the cue 10 years ago.
The good news is that it's a unique cue from a respected cuemaker, who no longer makes cues. That's probably worth a few bucks.

I apologize for commenting in the SALE forum, bcos every post pushes sellers farther down the page.I saw this thread in the gallery earlier. This forum and the 'cue and case gallery' is NOT for price checks,as per the rules. This thread belongs in the Main Forum. All that being said, you have a great cue by one of the best.Mr.Mottey is retired but he is on Facebook, and may even look at your cue and give you some valuable info,if you approach him courteously and politely.I wish you luck and yes,the ivory doesn't help much and could actually hurt a sale due to fears related to shipping, etc.I hope this helps you.

Thanks for the info, you are right about the section it should be in. I don't know how to move it, can a mod move it for me?

Thanks.

Its worth quite a bit, more than a SW I would think. However the Ivory makes it difficult as some of the best states to sell to will be off limits. I bought a beautiful Mottey off Ebay back in 2000 for $1800. Solid it to the same guy a year later for $3800, and I regret it every day. His cues were exceptional. As someone said it is worth what someone will pay.

I will however risk jail and send $100 Pay Pal for it tonight and I will cover PP fees and shipping as well.

I traded a 8 pt Mottey (livory joint, ferrules and a lot of inlays) a few years ago towards the purchase
of a EP cue from Cornerstone Cues. The market is downtrodden with depressed prices the past
few years and the ivory ban has only hurt it further.....(pics below).

Since no one has ventured a value estimate which is what you originally inquired about, I'll offer my
best guesstimate on the value (current sale price) of your Mottey cue. On the low end, and yes the
market can be fickle as well, $1800- $2k........on the opposite end.......$2500 - $2800..... and certainly
anything in between. But face the facts.....in this type market you are going to get beat up on price.

Anyway, that's my best take on this cue.........the Mottey cue I traded to Bill ultimately sold for $4300
after Bill added a leather wrap.......mine was a beautiful cue that worked its way across the nation and
is now owned by Tommy Hill, Owner of Blue Fin Billiards, right here in Fresno, CA.........and the irony
is it took 3 years after I traded the cue and he happens to also be my best friend.... what a wonderful story.

Boy, I do't know about that. I know you have a decided preference for ebony and devalue brown woods but I would say that the OPs Mottey is every bit as nice as the one you had. $1800? A Mottey merry widow will likely go for close to that. I would say $2500 minimum and probably quite a bit more, but just my view.

You are misinterpreting what I wrote....... the bottom sellers would take "around" 2 grand
and upper sellers around $2700 to $2800 & the seller has to decide where he wants to be.

After 60 days when a cue doesn;t sell and again after 4 months, sellers reduce their prices.
That's just a fact of life around the Forum.......personally, I wouldn't sell the cue and I'd hang
onto it........If I sold it, I'd list for $3100 -3200 but expect to negotiate down and net upper 2k..

That lets the buyer feels like they got a deal and the cue gets sold but all of this is academic.
The seller has to decide what he thinks he can get and the market will tell him if he's right.

To the OP....

Just get a solid offer from any of a number of cue pimps on here
or on Facebook and then know your cue is worth at least 500 more
than any of them will give you for it.

Makes sense.
