I hope to tell two stories here. My feedback on the Varney break tip and feedback on Kevin himself.

I was having lots of trouble with the White diamond tips and their tendency to pop off. I had tried several different glues and some worked better than others but in the end, it would pop off. I know several will come on and say they have never had any trouble and that's great for them, but I did.

Mr. Varney offered me a deal..........

If I send him my break shaft, he would install his break tip for free. All he wanted is a fair review of what I thought.

First, I'm not saying I'm the hardest breaker in the world but I feel I can slap them as good as the next guy. And I know size doesn't always matter but I'm 6'1 and 225 and I have learned to get my weight behind my break. And for reference I'm a 6 in APA 8 ball trying real hard not to be raised to a 7. :)

First impressions were very good, nice clean work. But the most important part is performance.....IMPACT and CONTROL

The White Diamond breaks hard and holds chalk fairly well BUT the Varney tip holds chalk like a leather tip. I never had one miscue the whole night and the control was very impressive for such a hard tip.

My first break produced a "crack" that sounded like a steel hammer hitting a slab of marble. The White Diamond has a crack to it but it is different. I had guys from the other team asking me what kind of break stick I was using.

Here's the good part, the stick/shaft is just a plain sneaky pete with the Varney tip installed. I don't know how much of a difference using a dedicated break cue with the Varney tip installed would make but I want to try one. :)

Overall impressions - Excellent

Kevin Varney has been nothing but nice to me and has went over and above in my dealings with him.

I am so pleased with the new tip and my dealings with Mr. Varney, I sent my Coker out to him this morning and he is making me a new shaft. He explained his taper and the hit it should provide and I can't wait to get it back. And I wouldn't be sending him my cue for a new shaft if I wasn't pleased with our dealings to this point.

did you happen to attempt a full stick jump with it? i only ask because currently i have a white diamond on my 2pc dedicated break cue and i've never really been able to full stick jump until i put that tip on and i love having that option for those long table jumps and i 'm just wondering how kevin's tip does for this in case i run into the same kind of pop off issues you experianced.
 
Hi Jeff,

You have discovered what many of us try to explain. I am very pleased with my Varney J/B and even though you just have the tip, I am sure you are already reaping the benefits.

I'm very happy that you are pleased Jeff. Its a much nicer feeling to know that your tip will not pop off now. Don't worry, we'll get you into a full blown Varney j/b soon.;)
socks...mine will jump full cue so well you'll be shocked. :)

I forgot to mention that Mr. Varney also changed the ferrule for me as the ferrule on that sneaky was a very cheap one. Thanks for that also.

And about the tip popping off..................

I was letting several people try it out to get some different opinions and one guy was breaking and you could tell that he hit the cue ball off side, not only by the sound but by the break itself............and I was sitting there thinking that if that had been my stick that still had the White Diamond on it, I would be looking for the tip somewhere over in the corner because whenever that Diamond popped off it would really go flying. :) :)

Yes it is a good feeling knowing that the Varney will never pop off
