Here is one of my bare bones j/b's...nothing fancy just monster performance. This one is actually a BLEM cue as the points aren't perfect & Alex allowed me to use a shaft that has a (not pictured) mineral spot. I hate to waste good wood simply due to a cosmetic imperfection so occasionally I build a BLEM cue & offer a small discount. The cue still has 100% performance. Alex wanted a cue he could take into bars & crush the balls without worrying if he banged the table or got a ding. More often than not the ugly wood performs the best...like it says "thank you for not trashing me".:thumbup:

I like this look for a JB. Looks like it means business. I'm going to have to get one of these sometime. If i may, how much does it weigh?

Got this cue today and varney cues are not all hype. This thing seriously breaks and jumps better than any other jb cue I have ever hit with. Az member greenlight was over playing today and he tried to buy it from me! I had to say no though, this cue will stay in the bag for a while. Thanks again Kevin!

Many cuemakers just toss the ugly wood into the trash. I'd rather not...as I said earlier, I for one don't want to toss perfectly fine performing wood into the trash just because of cosmetic blemishes. Take a look at the shaft on Alex's cue...the grain is awesome & its an incredibly dense shaft with superior tone quality...it just has on the other side a black mineral streak about 2" long that looks like it was swiped with a Sharpie. When I make my own personal j/b's and bar beater/barbox style cues, I always seek out pretty much the worst looking shaft I have. I have no problem using them & I'd rather use it and save the clean wood for my customers. Funny...I often have customers who have used my blem shafts in the past & now request them even on nicer cues. In my opinion the darkest brown shaft with lots of sugar marks or mineral spots are the absolute best hitting & performing shafts you'll find. You won't catch me with a snow white shaft on my personal stuff. On the other hand I don't feel good about using blem wood on orders where customers are expecting nice clean cues. I'm sure it'd be heart breaking to open your new cue and fine some ugly brown streaks all over your shafts. So thats why I occasionally offer a discounted blem cue. It also often helps out someone get a great performing cue who may be on a tight budget. Its a win win senario as I see it...as long as the customer knows exactly what he's getting and doesn't mind the imperfections.

i got one of the blem ones i believe and its awesome.

one of my good friends I shoot with that has the money to buy one keeps saying if I ever get the money for one of these I got to get one.

I might have to make him a cheap price on it and order up another.
 
By far the best break cue ive ever used. Effortless jumping as well. The only thing i dont like about it is its not mine. As far as looks, I think this cue looks great. The mineral spot doesn't bother me one bit, especially when you get that kind of performance. Good job Varney!
