Vegas BCA Meet and Greet at The FURY SKY BOX!

They also have Internet in the lobby where you can insert money and use for a certain amount time, isn't it?

If you want to use dail up make sure it is a local call. I have never stayed at the Riv but I know in some hotels, you can get a very good rate if you only stay connected for a short period of time, like 45 minutes, and then you should disconnect and do it again.

Also, you can try to get those AOL CD and start a free AOL account if you want to use dail up, they have a lot of local numbers that you can choose from.

I like the idea of wireless and I know sometimes you can get a better rate if you use the plan for a week rather than each 24 hours. The 24 hours plan starts at a certain time and ends 24 hours from that time regardless whether you have used it or not. Also, sometimes, they are only avaliable in certain "hot spot." I am not sure if that is the case with the Riv because I have never used it there.

I will be looking forward to see you and Toots in Vegas, Jack.:)

Yeah, most of the hotels use a service hat you can purchase monthly IF you are not connecting from the hotel.

It works like this - If you open your browser in the hotel then the computer connects to the service and redirects your browser to the login page - if you do not have a login your choice is to sign up for the daily rate. If you have a login then you just sign in and go.

The Riviera uses GoldenTree. I can't find a way to purchase a monthly login account for the GoldenTree network. They possibly partner with others to do that but I can't find any information.

I think that the Riviera charges for all calls in Vegas. Be very careful about using the room phone to access the internet or your bill may reflect it.

BCA Vegas AZB Meet and Greet!

Once again, John Barton has offered his space in the FURY BOOTH for us to Meet and Greet at. He will have one of the sky boxes in the second tournament room. Last year, a lot of people missed it because it was upstairs. Hopefully this year, people will look UP for it and see us.

For now, I would like to set the times to meet people at 7 PM to 11 PM daily. This gives a leeway for people who have matches. John will be giving away plenty of FURY Bucks that can be used for discounts and to play with.

I am looking forward to seeing a lot of new faces and some of my good friends. Can't wait to see SJM, RD, Linda, Lyn, Mark, and my buddy Watchez!

If jhon get me a plane ticket i'll go .HAY JHON GET ME A TICKET I"LL GO ....PLZ

FYI On the State Of The Riv Property

From The Las Vegas Advisor:

Question of the Day
May 1, 2006

Q: I've heard an Elvis casino is planned for Las Vegas. What is it and where is it going to be?

A: A rumor has been circulating for a month or two that an Elvis-themed megaresort is planned for the Strip. It's believed to be the project of Robert Sillerman. Sillerman, 51, is a member of Forbes' exclusive billionaire club. He made a killing flipping radio stations in the '80s and now controls a huge chunk of the international live-entertainment business.

Sillerman recently paid the Presley family $100 million for the majority rights to Elvis' name and likeness, among other prized family assets. Sillerman is expected in the near future to announce an Elvis museum and theme show, which could occupy property he owns on the Strip south of Harmon Avenue.

One interesting side note. Sillerman is also the managing partner in Flag Luxury Properties, which is one of the investors in a private group that's currently buying out the Riviera. What this might mean in terms of an Elvis casino is unknown, but Sillerman could eventually combine his Elvis holdings with his Las Vegas real estate and hence, an Elvis-themed megaresort.

How do you get to this room upstairs? I know where the elevators are; the ones that you used to have to take to get to the pro event. It isn't over there, is it?

As you are walking down the looonngg hallway to the second building, you will come accross a flight of stairs. You can either take the stairs or the elevator located directed NEXT to the stairway.

There will be signage all over for it.

OR you can go into the second room and look up and see us all looking down at YOU!:D

BCA Video

Here is a little video slideshow I'm working on for the BCA Event next week. It's still 'under construction' please keep in mind! I thought I'd give you guys a preview, and see what you thought??

This one features mostly Az players, and the Pro's. If possible, (time permitting) I'm going to update this video as often as I can with new players, throughout the tournament.

Anyway, take a look.

When it opens, click on the image to begin. It's about 11 minutes long.

Apparently the buy out of the Riv is by proxy. The shares are worth around $23.00 a share and so far they have been offered $17.00. It's going to be a few years in the making, but the Riv is going down and that's a sad thing for me. I have spent over 15 years at the Riv for the BCA events, so I am sorry to see it go.

I wonder what this means for the tournament. If it ends up in a nicer casino, it might not be a bad thing. :) Hopefully the IPT event at the Venecian will go over well and possibly open the door for the BCA to get into another premier casino. I have to admit, 8 days at The Venecian might be a little more fun than 8 days at the Riviera. The only catch would be that they'd have to do some serious negotiating over the room rates. ;)

You say it's "going down". Do you mean that they're going to demolish it?

The Surprise

Okay folks it's official. We are the new owners of an awesome laser engraver. We can engrave just about anything on just about anything. All visitors to the Fury SkyBox will get a souvenir laser engraved something - pool related of course!

We can do just about anything on the pool cue from buttcap to tip. CueSight.com will be presenting the engraving services in the Royale Pavillion (that's the second ballroom at the end of the building) just below the skyboxes.

I am really excited about being able to offer this level of personalizing and decoration. Anyone who purchases a Fury cue can have that cue uniqely personalized for free. We will also be offering to make anyone else's cue unique as well as selling a bunch of billiard items for engraving.

If anyone wants any kind of image put on their cue, case or whatever you have please try and bring it in digital form, on cd or thumb(usb) drive and I will do my best to engrave it. We can get some amazing detail.

Okay well, that's the end of the advertisement - I look forward to seeing everyone at the SkyBox or downstairs at the laser engraver. Let's have a great Pool Week with everyone in dead stroke!!!

See you in a few days,

John

John,

Since I cannot make Vegas this year, can I request the souviner via proxy??

PS; Eydie the web site you suggested only has the plain maple shown. Let me know when you get there what is avail.

Thanks,

The scoop that I got yesterday, from a good friend in Vegas, is that it will be down within the next 5 yrs. The only real problem with this is that it is going to cost each and every single one of us.:( Meaning that for them (The BCA POOL LEAGUES) to find another venue in Vegas with reasonable room rates are going to be extremely hard. Recently another "Host location" for a big tournament reneged on their contract for a tournament due to management change..

The "New" venue for the tournament will jack our room prices sky high due to the fact that Vegas is prime vacation destination and there will most likely be a price structure that everyone falls into with rooms over $100.00 a night at the minimum. The days of $39.00 room rates are GONE. You will have to depend on your comp if you play. Make sure you get a "players Card" if you plan to gamble.

I have done many studies with pool players and this is going to be a major devastation to number of players that are able to afford the cost of 7 to 10 days in Vegas for any event. The prices are sky rocketing, but the annual income of a "Typical" family is staying the same.

Yes, it will be demolsihed.

You're getting your room at the Riviera for $39.00? If so, is this because of a partial comp or something? I'm staying at the Westin for most of the tournament this year because I didn't book a room at the Riv before they filled up, but I'm asking because I thought the rate was $69 or $79 per night at the Riviera. If I know I can get a room for $39.00, I might be a little quicker in booking a room at the Riviera next year.

I get a player rate for like $39.00 on specific days only at The Riv. The weekends are more. Circus Circus has (or used to promote) $30.00 rooms during the week WITHOUT a player card, but the weekends were over $100.00. I don't see that ad anymore and the rooms that were that low were way in the back of the hotel in one of the towers way away from everything.

IF you play, get a card and they will send you comps, although this year they have been very limited with their free stuff.

Sure - No problemo - you might have to "remind" me several times though :-)
