Vegas Observations from a First-Timer

This was also my first time going to the BCA in Vegas although I had been for VNEA 4 times in the past.

I enjoyed the BCA much more for several reasons..

1. I really enjoyed playing on the Diamond bar boxes. I felt that they were to the advantage of the better players. Very nice indeed! However, they were filthy which one could expect form continuous play for 10 straight days.
2. Watching the Pro’s was a great time. Normally I only get to see them on TV or at the Derby. Getting a chance to watch the men and women was a real treat, some of the ladies have some serious game. The tight pocketed Diamond tables did not seem to phase some of them.
3. Jasmin…very nice, enough said!
4. The BCA amateur event was run very well even though my team did not all show up…figuratively speaking. Next year I expect that we will do much better, looking forward to playing with our very own Renard and a few other really good players as well. We will have a team that can compete with anyone IMHO!
5. The Riviera is a drag but it’s only a place to sleep, so I could really care less!
6. The AZ room was nice but I only got a chance to pop in 2 times. I don’t talk too much but I got to meet Mr. and Mrs. Roman, saw Alice Rim, Jen Baretta, Linda Carter, Shawn Putnam, Melissa Herndon, Willie stopped in for a moment but was gone when I turned around to say hello, a bunch of other AZers that I did not get to meet.. I was going to say hello to Linda but she was very occupied with Jennifer’s handsome baby boy.
Next year I won’t be so shy and say hello and introduce myself to others.
7. Overall, I had a fantastic time, looking forward to next year, already!
I was there in the room that time.I was the guy that was talking about that marlon manalo shot i saw.Sorry didnt introduce myself to you guys.

JK,
DAMNIT!!! Very sorry I couldn't stay longer (was just scouting out a place for a straight pool match with TheOne and rackmsuckr and sjm - Scotch Doubles - it never happened). You definitely need to get your rear over to Indy sometime for some pool in Betmore's Basement.

Don, very soon.. If you have any free time on a Sat or Sun in July, let me know. I would love to have some straight pool lessons:)!

Thanks, Joe

Willbetmore - Sorry I did not get to meet you and semi hijacked you thread with my $0.02 worth.

I wanted to watch you play some more straight pool for jelly beans.

Joe, now I feel bad! I would have loved for you to come over and say hi. I could have torn my eyes away from Jen's baby to visit with you!

And btw, I agree with JAM, those fliers should not be left around everywhere. I would never take my kids there, with full shots of women's crotches on the sidewalks and in the magazine stands on the street. It's disgusting.

WBM, if I ever make it to Indiana or next year's BCA, whichever comes first, we will have a straight pool game. But you are spotting me 98 to 100!

You know, people keep criticizing the Riviera and I gotta come to the BCA's defense here. Now I will admit, I've only been to a dozen or so casinos in my life and know nothing about which hotels can accommodate such an event. I also know very little about room-rates throughout Vegas.

With all that said, The Riv is a big place with most of the things you'd expect from a Hotel & Casino. I love the fact that I've grown so familiar with it. The convention space and the skyboxes make for great viewing. I especially love the skyboxes in the amateur room.

I think it's awesome the Riv & BCA have managed to get the players reasonable rates. It may not be as nice as Bellagio but seriously, if the event did get moved to a casino of that caliber, the cost of the trip would skyrocket. If the event ever got moved, I'm sure I'd go and I'm sure I'd have a great time but it just wouldn't be the same. I mean, am I going to get my Peppermill fix any place else? I don't think so.

I agree with many of the opinions in your post.

I do not like Las Vegas either as a tournament venue site. It is hot as hell, crowded like sardines, too many distractions, shops charge top dollar for everything, and then there's the legalized prostitution.

Maybe the guys enjoy the legalized prostitution, but when you're walking down the street in Vegas with your husband/boyfriend, arm in arm, and a vendor hands your boyfriend/husband a flyer with a picture of a half-naked hooker along with her name and phone number on it, something ain't quite right.

JAM

I know my response in that situation would be far from friendly!

Willie, great post. You've certainly sold me on wanting to head out there! I've been to Vegas once so far for a grand total of 7 hours but as I said to someone at the PH the other night, "Vegas & pool. What could be better?" Now I just have to convince my wife it's a good idea!!:D

Williebetmore, too bad you couldn't hang out more. It was nice seeing you (and meeting your wife), though it was for only a second. Hope you had fun!!!

Vagabond and Steve L, it was great to see you both too. Steve, one of these days it would be nice to see you play in the pro event.

I just wish I could've spent more time in the AZ room. I did a quick clinic in there one day, but didn't get much of a chance to meet other AZBers....
