This is all nice barbecuing the said player without giving him the chance to defend himself on this forum.

Since when do you bank money with a bunch of guys for a trip and they decide to keep your money? That's his Vegas money!

So yes to the money he put in and yes to the winnings pro-rated to the point he left....give it back.

I'm surprised you are even asking these questions! Let alone by some of the reponses on here!

You stated that all 6 of your team members are equal in skill. That means, one person is not supporting the team, and any one of you missing will not adversly affect the team outcome in Vegas. If he didn't quit the team for Vegas, one of you would get to be the odd duck and go and not get to play. How would you like that one person to be you? By him switching to another team with only 4 members, all 10 of you get to play! Smart move on his part, and your team should be grateful, now, none of you have to worry about not getting to play in Vegas.

As far as the money goes- he did not quit the team. He offered to finish out the season. That means, he would have full dues in just like everyone else. That would mean that he would get an equal share with the rest of the team, as agreed upon. (What's your and your teammates word worth?) As far as any Vegas winnings, he would be excempt from them, because he would not be playing on your team there. Just as your team would be excempt from any winnings his 'new' team might win there.

Sounds like this isn't about fairness at all, but an attempt to screw the 'odd ball' out of his fair share. Why was he kicked off the team? Because he found a solution that benefited all ten of you? You all know what the right thing to do is.

Neil said it well.
In addition, every league operator does things a little different as far as payouts and travel money. I would say if your team won any money while he was on your team, he is entitled to 1/6th. If he gets travel money while on your team, he should still get it, he is still going to Vegas right? Just on another team.
He actually did your team a favor. If you cash in Vegas, now you only have to split it 5 ways. He went to a worse team, so what are his odds of doing as well as your team in Vegas?
As far as the jacket goes, think of this. Is your team awarded 6 team jackets for winning the season? If so, who would you give the 6th jacket to? My league is based from a 5 man team. Most awards are given in fives. If your team has 7 guys, it's up to the team to decide who gets what.
Ok that's my .02

I think this pretty much nails my thoughts on it, as well. Thanks for saving me the typing Neil.

To the top one time for the weekend crowd in hopes of getting an opinion or two more or some official word on how this is handled by the powers that be.

I already posted in the other thread you started about this and it is similar to Neil's response.

Plus I don't think you are going to do what should be done or else you wouldn't be here asking for advice, you would have done it already. You are just waiting to hear the answer that you want to hear and are going to go with that.

Have fun with that mans money, when he did in fact help YOUR team get to first place.

I believe a lot of this issue comes down to the terms in which he left the team. If he was on good terms then pay him 1/6th of the money made prior to him leaving. If you win the jacket or whatever give him it.

Think of it this way. If a pro football player decides he isn't going to play would he get paid for the games he misses (even if he helped the team make the playoffs)?

An update.

The team ("Mojo" from Calgary, captain "California" Bob Strachan, will be playing BCA open this year in Vegas) did not pay back the league fees or any money prior to the playoffs. The 6 players on the team each paid $425 in league fees leading up to the end of the year tournament for the trip including the player who was kicked off (me, Shane Lyons).

The remaining 5 players won the trip including $3000 travel allowance. They also won jackets. After they had won the money they paid me $250 total, so I paid in $425 in league fees for the team, they won a trip, and I got back $250, for a net loss of $175. The team also won jackets, of which I of course saw nothing.

Now, this irks me abit and I decided to get it off my chest here because I have captained teams in league before and one year had 2 players quit a 5 player team after we won a trip to Vegas, causing the Vegas team to in fact forfeit. As the captain it never even came into my mind that I might rip off the players who bailed on Vegas. Regardless of their choice to not go to Vegas they paid in their league fees and played as members of the team and this entitled them to their portion of the winnings. I would feel a serious lack of personal honor and a lack of character to attempt to rip off the members of the team because of decisions about whether to play in Vegas on the team or not.

Other situations in this city similar when players decide to play on other teams or are removed from teams have NEVER resulted in the players leaving the team being ripped off for their winnings and/or league fees. General practice was to pay off the league fees paid in before the playoffs, or the players are still eligable for their cut of the winnings. This is a first for this kind of ripping off of a team mate and goes against what was IMO a far more honorable precident and general practice.

The league operator agreed that the team should not rip off a fellow teammate but claimed that her hands were tied as she did not know who paid in what percentage of league fees or dealings the team might have had with payouts relative to people going to Vegas. I can understand her side of things, she went so far as to tell the team that they should dot he right thing, and they instead decided to do otherwise. I feel no blame falls on the LO or the league, it falls squarely on the shoulders of the team Mojo, the captain Bob Strachan, and the other members of the team who went with his lead instead of having enough character to demand to do what is right.

That is one thing that gets me the most, 2 of the players on the team are ex team mates from last year where we got 7/8th in the VNEA Open in teams. Were the situation reversed and I was to remain on a team that kicked off a person I considered a friend and then attempt to rip that person off I would be very vocal and determined that the team do what is right and fair and pay that person out prior to the playoffs for their money or they remain in for the equal cut of their money. It is what I did before as a captain and things would not change. I blame the captain Bob Strachan for the decision as he runs the team much as a dictator but I do feel the other members of the team showed a serious lack of character in going with the flow and being a part of ripping off a former fellow teammate because they do not want to rock the boat.

I am in general powerless to do anything about this through normal channels, I tried. They ripped me off and they will get away with the money. But I do feel that people should at least be held accountable for their actions in situations like this and their true character should be reflected in their actions.

Just for the record the stats and team standings are on the link below under Monday Masters. The team I quit Mojo was by far the 1st place team and had 1st place wrapped up before I had quit. They had 189 stats (ERO's, 1st Attempts, 10-0's), the next best team had 144. This was certainly not a case of team jumping onto a better team, it was a matter of chemistry and a 6 man team that would have to have someone sitting in Vegas without a person quitting.

Anyhow, case closed now, I just wanted this out there.
