Hello all. My team just won the trip to Vegas for the National Championships June 10 to 15, YEAH!!! :)

I'd love to here from the Vegas Veterans on things that are a must do, while in town. As well as things to avoid? Of course Pool is my focus but i want to have fun too.......but fun food and entertainment on a budget. lol St.<< not a whale >>

Congratulations, Stretch. Which league did you win the trip for?

As far as tips, there are a lot in the BCA threads and also the IPT threads. Just do a search for Vegas and you will find a lot.

Vegas to Do

I always try to keep from getting kicked off too many gambling tables for winning too much money. :D

I am assuming this is for the ACS...I think that was around that time. If you can, rent a car and go out to the Hoover Dam...it is awesome. Only about a hour or so drive from Vegas. Get around to see some of the nicer hotels...the Riv is old and rundown. Although, on every movie that you see they seem to choose the Riv everytime...it is a pretty big landmark and one of the older hotels on the strip.

Go to the Stratosphere and ride the rides that are on top of it. It is pretty high in the air and they have a roller coaster on top and something that shoots you high into the air and then you are in free fall...sitting on this ride and seeing all the lights in Vegas is very worth it.

Depending on when the tournament is, you could rent a car and drive out to Mt Charleston which may still have snow on it to make you feel at home.

I would definitely tour some of the newer casinos and their shops - the Venetian, the Bellagio, and Caesar's. Check out the water show at the Bellagio and the volcano at the Mirage. The seafood buffet at the Rio is awesome.

Definitely check out Hoover Dam. Even if you don't take the official tour it's still awesome.

Take an all-day pass on the monorail.
Cheapest best burger in town is In N Out. There's one by Rio Hotel.
Getting to the top of Stratosphere is almost a must.
PM me for the best strip clubs. LOL

Smitty's Castle is pretty cool if you have a car. And the drive past Area 51 on the way, and also back with the surreal rock formations are fantastic!

Vegas

Well, the super model like hookers aren't bad. Oops sorry, I forgot this is a family forum...yeah the dam is pretty cool:)

And don't forget google...just put your opening line "Vegas Virgin" in there and you'll find something i'm sure.

Iam at 41 times vet to Vegas on this trip...i ve seen the changes over the years. Everyone has suggested great things. I always take in the Bellagio Buffet spendy so is Seafood villiage buffet at Rio. But indulge. Food is all great....

free stuff tigers, fremont street experience, The pirate battle used to be great now they have the Sirens at Tresure Island.......

NY NY roller coaster short fun 1 minute trip...20 minutes out of town Buffalo Bill coaster was one of the highest 1st drop coaster years back about 3 minute ride.

It will take you several trips over the yeras to see it all and play pool....

finally a topic I know something about!

If you like to gamble, try downtown. There a dozen or so smaller casinos that you can easily walk from one to the other. Lower limits, better odds, and I think more friendly than the strip. If you make the trip, make sure to get some 99 cent shrimp cocktail at the Golden Gate, drink a free micro brew while playing 9/5 JOB at the Main Street Station brew pub, take in some $3 black jack, try the progressive video poker at the four queens. They also have the "freemont st experience" light show that is cool the first 2 or 3 times.

Across from the Riv is Circus Circus and Slots of Fun. Also good low limit black jack and slots has a $1 crap table. Good place to learn without getting hurt too bad.

Also must see the desert. Red Rock Canyon, Boulder Dam, Grand Canyon tours are available.

If you are at all into Star Trek, the Hilton has a very elaborate Trekie museum/action ride.

The strip is overwhelming. You can just wander and experience.

Just my two cents.

Watch your butt if out walking around by yourself at night.

There is a thread about it here with some good tips about things to avoid:

To be sure, always watch yourself in the big city, especially a party city. It's best not to walk alone in any town you are not familiar with. I've never had a problem downtown, but I'm usually with a group. Last February, I stayed at the Golden Nugget with my wife for Valentines day. It was her first trip to Vegas and my first without a group of buddies. I must admit that it did seem a bit sketchy when we wandered off of Freemont, but there really is no reason to. I think if you use common sense and don't wander off on your own, you can have a lot of fun downtown. I like the old time feel of the area and I think its a shame that so many people go to Vegas and never spend one night there.

Ooooh really, what game do you play? How much do you win on average? Or are ya just yankin my chain? :D  :p

Hey thanks everyone! Really enjoyed all the responses. The good, the bad, and the ugly lol. Great resource here you've all been very helpfull. St.>> thinks he'll be saying "we're not in Kansas Toto". :)

remember this

remember to pace yourself, even 4 days in Vegas is hard on a budget. I figured on at least $100 a day and that can be conservative. Dont forget about all the cues for sale, products, t shirt, the $1 games of practice pool. Definitely hit up the Rio for the buffet and when you are done go upstairs and get one of their HUGE margaritas, I think its like 50ozs, also walk by the pool at the Rio, if you are a dude! Enjoy!

well if you are a true pool junkie and gambler.. a 100$ a day will be nothing... even taking into account your life situation if you are a gambler and player you should budget no less then $500 a day...

if you are true junkie (has been known to flip coins for amounts in excess of $100 a flip...) you should probably budget roughly 1k-2k per day...

i know that is what i am budgeting for my future trip... if i could ever find a set of balls to fly out here

If you are a high roller, you can get everything for free. You can live like a king, and you will not want to go back to reality.

I know this person who was staying at the villa on comp at the Mirage. It had its own private swimming pool.

So, have fun, get a players card, and enjoy your dream!
