Vegas

Where are all those peeps that were saying Matchroom should move the US Open to Vegas, or have their "new" US event in Vegas? lmao

those kind of costs are at most all expensive resorts where you go. that's life. you can go a mile off the strip and pay normal prices for things.

way back vegas was cheap we had 1 dollar big shrimp cocktails and 2 dollar steaks. howard hughes bought the el rancho vegas property 60 acres on sahara and strip for 8 million bucks. i almost got a small lot on the strip for 100 grand but lost out.
lots out on decator road which was all desert were just few thousand for 5 acres.

those days are gone. just like the one dollar hamburger elsewhere in the u.s. now it's 15 bucks most places. not chains.

I'll start with something I haven't noticed in any other post: The Strip is WAY longer than you think it is. The first time I went was around 2001 and we stayed at The Stratosphere. We got up the next morning and decided to walk the entire strip and back, stopping in every casino to get a $1.00 souvenir chip. That was a bad idea. We failed to realize that The Strip was around 5.5 miles long. We did manage to make it all the way to Mandalay Bay and then back to The Riviera before I threw in the towel and took a cab back to The Strat.

Expect to hemorrhage cash even if you're not gambling. Don't get caught up in any streetside scams (three card monte, anyone?) Don't answer to anyone approaching you on the street no matter how polite they seem. Keep your cash where it can't easily be lifted. I know that makes it sound terrible. It's not. It's just not my thing and I have no desire to go back. But I'm glad I went.

If you have time and transportation, DO check out Hoover Dam. Take the tour. It's an engineering marvel. And you might as well head on over to The Grand Canyon, too.

yea the strat started by bob stupack as vegas world casino. he was a real character. he originally was a circus con man starting out.
he built it up with all kinds of crazy promotions until he got interested in the tower. i used to walk there once in a while and wake him up for breakfast. hard to be around him as he chain smoked. but fun guy.
he did well until he decided to invest in the tower. it was in a bad area and no other casinos nearby really. soon after it went under. no real fault of his. as he lost control of the casino and that went down. around then he got in a motorcycle wreak and never was the same guy again.

He was in the poker world too

Yes. Years ago me and a gal stayed at the Mandalay Bay in September or October and had tickets to see Jeff Beck in concert at the House of Blues. She was used to walking half marathons and I was a heavy duty bicyclist so we were both in shape. It was 90 F and we walked most if not all of it. I unthinkingly bought a heavy Egyptian statue at the Luxor gift shop and had to carry that damn thing as well.

I've never been there to Las Vegas my folks had been a couple times and they stayed at the Horse Shoe as my dad and Benny were friends , I never got to meet him sadly , anyway how is the Horse Shoe as a place to stay ?

wow you made it 99% of the way! Impressive but I bet you coulda finished after a little rest. Riv is only a couple blocks from the Strat! Proposed to my wife at Riv while on a BCA teams trip out there!

Just go and have fun, who cares what it costs, remember this is a pool site and pool players are notoriously cheap/broke, they complain about $5hr pool.
If one can adopt this outlook, it's quite enjoyable. Especially for a one off. Whole different thing if you've been a bunch of times. I mean I pay for absolutely nothing out there and I still think it's overpriced lol. But that's not why I'm staying away.

So you were mugged?
