Velocity Pro Feedback

I know that this has been brought up before, but I thought I would ask again since it has been some time. If you are using Velocity Pro right now how is it comparing to Simonis 860, as in wear and playability? Would you purchase it again when you need your tables recovered?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks Matt

Velocity has been around since February so you can get a 4 month read from those using it. Rooms will probably have some different results based on amount of table traffic and the quality of the install. The buzz is it wears and plays well and backs up the initial comparison testing between it, 860 and 3030.

Get ahold of "Strokerz" and ask his opinion since I know he has it on at least 1 table.

2 tables :0 It seems very good so far. Ask me in 6 months. Players cant tell the difference between it and simonis. It plays fast. I hope I it is durable if so all of our tables will have it on them. you cant beat the price. Level best is great to deal with. Rick is A+ in my book! Great customer service as well! I will be buying all of my cloth from them from now on no matter what kind we use.

Thanks Strokerz for the feedback I have been wondering about Velocity for a couple of months now. Thanks again Matt

West Penn Billiards is offering it now as an upgrade from woolem cloth and an alternative to mercury ultra. I would say for a home table you couldnt miss with the Velocity cloth. As for comercial use time will tell. :)

I am not a room owner, but I did have velocity installed on my 8 ft Olhausen in my basement. It was installed the weekend before Easter, and has had minimum of 5 hrs play on it each and every day. Some weekends it has since a relentless amount of play up to about 15 hours each night (Jeeves can atest to that, as he helped put about 40 hours on it in 2 days).....hehe....

How is it holding up? How is the speed compared to simonis?

Speed has remained the same, the rebound angles from the rails have tightened up now that its not so slick and the balls dont slide as much as when brand new. Very few burn marks in the cloth except of course from the side where we break from, and there are no cue ball tracks going down to the rack spot either. I am quite impressed and when the time comes.....Ill be putting velocity back on the table again.

I've never played on worsted wool before and just bought Velocity Pro from Rick at poolfelt.com. Thanks, by the way! Before I install I just want to be 100% sure that I'm supposed to put the smooth side up, is that correct?

Correct.
We also sticker the bed cloth and rails to indicate the up side.

I had velocity pro on two of my tables for about three months. I took it back off and replaced it with Championship. The price of it was great and the speed was comparable if not faster then Championship 3030 but the durability was terrible. I would have to replace it twice as often as Championship and if you have to do that why not put the cloth on you like the first time.

Durability has been the key question for this cloth. It tested comparably to 860 and 3030 for speed and durability in a lab but real life results tell the better story on how it works in a commercial setting.

To state the durability is "terrible" is your opinion. How about backing that up with some facts.

In the meantime here's my opinion -
1. You have bangers in your room - how do you get 5 holes in new Simonis in 1 week?
Your post - http://forums.azbilliards.com/showpost.php?p=579359&postcount=3
2. Using a rotating brush vacuums tear up cloth in short time.

Not trying to flame you here but maybe it's not the cloth but the environment the cloth lives in.
Granted 3030 will hold up longer in the war zone because it's heavier to begin with but the bangers
and rotating brush will wear that out faster then it should also.

The cloth has been on the market for 6 months now so it would be good for other users to chime in on how the cloth is doing.

I installed Velocity on 2 tables her so far and I will be doing the other 8 I have with it as well. The fist table was done in early may and it dose not show hardly any wear at all. This table is right next to our big screen and is the first table most people go to when the get balls. Granted I have only ran about 5 tourneys and most of the play on this table is bangers. For regular cleaning I brush lightly, use my shop vac with a 7 inch brush attachment and then I use quick clean. I use quick clean about once a week or as needed but I brush and vacum every day if at all possible. I also try to keep our balls clean as possible ( ) I use a ball polisher I made with some arimath ball cleaner and it works great. Now I installed the velocity on our main table that gets the most 9-ball action, our main table so to speak. I started using a break cloth on this table for the simple fact I have to recover it twice as often and it seems to be cutting down on the break lines. This table gets the most serious play in the house and gets the most wear and tear. I have very few traces of lines from breaking and the rack area is weraing in my opinion better then the last simonis I put on. I recovered this table the first week of july so it hasnt been that long but the amount of wear is tripple any other table gets here. For the price I personally think it is a great value, It's fast. It streches nice when installed. I have yet to have a player ask if it is simonis. They all assumeit is. I clean this table twice as often as my others as well. A little preventive maintainence goes a long way. But velocity is a good cloth and Rick treats me great and I will be ordering more cloth soon.

Isn't it remarkable how some regular maintenance helps keep things working well and looking good? Seems like the cloth is doing ok at your place. Thanks for the update.

No problem Rick, I look forward to installing some more here real soon. :D

I just installed on 2 tables about 3 weeks ago The wear has been about the same as Simonis so far an no one new the difference. Time will tell about the overall performance and duribility. It is so much cheaper that I will be able to cover more tables more often and take the used cloth and clean it and use it on my bar tables. This makes the bar table tourny's less expensive and they get better tournouts. We should actually make a profit off the 7' tourny's instead of using them as a loss leader.

I just installed some Velocity on 2 Diamond 9ft ProAms here in Vegas a couple of days ago. One of the things I noticed I didn't like about the cloth, is the fact that the rail cloth is cut instead of ripped like normal cloth. I found out why, as you try to pull off all the loose strings...and there's a lot of them trust me...LOL it wants to unravel at the edges, Simonis don't do that, neither does Championship. Also, I install the cloth tight, probably tighter than anyone else does, so the cloth has a tendency to track the balls, and is noticeably faster than Simonis 860 is, maybe even faster than 760 too, not sure about that as I haven't installed 760 in I don't know how long...LOL. I also had to tighten up the feather strips, as the cloth is thinner than Simonis, that's what I took off the tables, which was more faded out, than worn out. For the price, it seems to be a good alternative to Simonis, but not in the same league as Simonis. My only complaint about any Simonis cloth is the Tour Blue not holding its color any better than it does. I do think so far, that the Velocity's an alright cloth to install on pool room 9ft tables, but I'd doubt it's ability to hold up in the bar table industry, as that industry can test the best of any cloth made today...by any manufacture. For bar tables, my first and still my best cloth for the job, is either Championship 3030, or the Titan...hands down.

Glen

PS. As time passes, I'll keep an eye on the tables I installed it on. In time, it may pass the owners inspection, but it still has to pass the players test.

I noticed these strings uraveling as well. The stuff is fast though:D I agree with glen, for larger rooms with 9ft tables it is very cost effective compared to simonis. Seems to be wearing well too. 4 months on our main table here and still holding up great. No holes, very few burn marks. Color looks great. My maintainence routine. Brush lightly, vacum with shop vac and 7inch brush attachment. Quick clean to finish. Clean and polish balls weekly. Works like a charm and keep our equipment in tip top shape! I sold some velocity to the american legion here in town for their 8ft valley bar table, So this will be a good test for that playing enviorment.
