I have been looking for a binding press to do veneers. Is there any presses out there new or used that are not antique.

Think I paid $25 on craigslist for mine..... just have to keep an eye out.

I did a search on CraigsList here and was surprised to see just how many were listed (5-6). None for the magical $25 figure - more like $250, but I didn't expect to find any.

I also went to search for it in US's Craigslist. $25 for it is cheap but nahz, all I see was $200 and above.

Book presses make bad veneer presses even when the plates are milled perfectly flat. The pressure is applied more in the middle than at the edges and the veneer sheet will be thicker at the edges, at least a few thousandths.

I made my own out of two 1 1/4" thick pieces of aluminum. 9"X12" with rows of 4, 1/2" studs, 3" apart on each long edge of the plates. The distance between the plates is up to you. I have mine 6 1/2" apart and can get a sheet wide enough for 4,5,and 6 point cues. The studs are bottomed in the lower plate and the upper plate is drilled to slide over the studs. The nuts are flanged hold down nuts for milling machine tables and I use a 1 3/4" and 1" washer under each nut. The veneer being pressed must be almost as wide as the spacing between the rows. Wax paper between the glued surfaces and any other surface. Long box wrench.

$250 is ridiculous ...... IMO Do you guys have Kbid out there Gary? That's another place to check.
