Veneer(re-cuts) and ringwork ideas on a cue design

I've been tossing around this design for awile. Part of what keeps my wife interested in the game is helping me design cues. I'm not the biggest fan of Turquosie but she likes it and I'll get another cue so I'm not complaining. The basics I've laid out here are pretty much set unless someone has a real bangup idea.

I've been wanting a black forearm cue for some time now. Where I'm stuck is on how to tie it all together. 2 or 3 recuts and which wood goes well with the Ebony and BEM. I'd like 3 veneers and then to match it at the window, but a good 2 veneer combo is ok.

The other area I'm stuck, is the ring work, I left those white for now. I'd like rings in all the major areas but haven't decided if putting turquosie in the rings is over doing it. Any ideas, thoughts, constructive critizism is welcome.

I'm finishing this out with a black phenolic buttcap and ivory sleeved joint/ivory ferrule, big radial pin. Up for ideas on the wrap too. Thanks to anyone that helps.

I don't like it, but thats not important, what's important is, if you like it. I don't care what others think of my cue. I like it and that is all that matters.

Well if was totally up to me its not exactly what I would do either lol. More or less looking for a way to make it look better. I'm open to idea and design changes....what would you do?
 
Turquoise in general is a south-southwest style thing, I believe.
It has to go with silver or it just doesn't look right.
In very,very small intricate doses generally done in a darker wood.
Some of my thoughts on a southwest stone............
 
maybe try flipping the BEM and Ebony around? And this cue would def require a black leather rap...

Ebony -maple recuts outline the points........thin silver around the turq...
and some type of design through the turq with the silver..... something as simple as this...)(.....just break the dots up with something intricate in silver also.
Black leather........... or an ebony handle if you like a no wrapper.

I just revised that picture to show recuts and recuts around the window. I added some silver inbetween the dots and added rings. Good idea I like that a whole lot better. Not sure about the rings though

Cue Design

You need to decide if you want the very rounded corners of the large inlays in the butt of the cue - or - have very sharp 90-degree edged inlays.
 
If you mean the window I do prefer the rounded rectangle look. I just think it looks cleaner.
 
I think there needs to be a hint of turquoise in the ringwork as well. Maybe something more akin to a stitch ring, using silver, turquoise, and maple.

now youre talking, you just need something to break up the dots on the forearm as well, have you concidered dimond shaped turquoise inlays instead of round?
 
Okay, well now that you got my creative juices flowing....

For some reason, this design just doesn't seem to have a good flow to it currently...for me anyways. If it were me, here is what I would do:

First, I would lose the BEM altogether. I would make this an ebony on ebony cue, with three veneers, gradient shades of teal blues or blues in a similar range. I like the turquoise colored veneers that Murray Tucker uses....very vibrant. Anyway, the veneers will 'pop' the forearm. The inlay I would use in the points and the butt sleeve would be one single medium sized turquoise dot, or better yet, three or four small turquoise dots, arranged like in a traditional cue design, and again in a slightly larger size X 4 into the butt sleeve. As to the rings, I think a turquoise ring bordered with silver on either side at the butt sleeve/ butt cap and again at the joint collar and shaft collars. I would leave above and below the wrap sans rings.

But that's just me.;) :D

Green/blue black, and white are favorite colors of mine, and I've always been attracted to cues with these colors. I also like the idea of losing the maple altogether too. But I like the idea of ebony on ebony with silver veneers, and silver ringwork. Blue in the ringwork IMHO might make it a little too flashy, and a little difficult to pull that baby out of the case in a crowded joint.
Don't want to hurt any feelings either (you or your wife) but the round inlays appear clumsy and plain to me. Let's have a little more fun?

I've never seen it done, but what would you think of turquoise dots in the rings.I think it would compliment the dots in the forearm nicely. Don

That is outstanding.

You got me thinking now. Thanks for the ideas guys let me make some changes and I'll re-post a pic.
 
Fresh start MOP circles in the silver rings. Ivory notched diamond or MOP circles. I like the notched diamond better without the window.
