Versus televising IPT match Sep 25th

Strange. Why would they rerun that old match? Are you sure that it's the old Sigel vs Jones? Everything they do puzzles me!

Could it be because OLN received good ratings when they ran that match before? And they want to feature that match when they start off with their new name - Versus.

What were the ratings and what does everyone think about the Women for next year? Will they be granted special status? Will the top 10 women "go through" to next year despite being out of the top 100? Will they get a game or two on the wire next year? I heard something like that.

Could be, but I doubt it. Most networks start the new season with their new shows, old reruns are for dead time. Would make more sense to run the last IPT tournament. Is the sarcasm supposed to serve any particiliar purpose? It doesn't make your statement any more believable.

Read the entire story:

The article even mentions the high ratings the IPT received.

Jake

I take it you are refering to the sentence :

" The IPT’s “King of the Hill” series aired on OLN with notable ratings success over the summer. "

This sounds pretty couched if you ask me.

Also, I think that this comment is simply their opinion, which is a bit high if you ask me :

"The Sigel vs. Jones match .... is considered one of the most historic and entertaining cue sports match-ups of all time."

It's only historic to the IPT at this point. And I think that if you polled the experts on entertaining matches, this one would not rank very high.

You really don't look that good in a cheerleaders outfit jjj.

That's not a news article it is a press release by the IPT. You don't think a news article about the OLN would say

"The International Pool Tour has become one of the most valuable new sports franchises on American television".

Those are the IPT's words It's a fake article, get real Jake even you aren't that gullible. I hope you don't really believe that KT is really being interviewed on those fake informercial shows

Regardless of what people feel about the article, it's not a total fluff piece, the IPT is doing very very well in comparison to all other pool on US TV, and making OLN happy.

OLN (Versus) does nothing out the kindness of their heart, the placement and time slots as well as purchasing the rights to 2 more tournaments is a strong sign. Clearly they feel the Sigel Jones match was successful and will draw a nice audience for them, also advertisers have a play in this so watch closely to who paid for time during the match.

I think the Siegel Jones match was probably as high or higher rated then the King of the Hill. I also think the North American open will be one of the better rated shows on the Versus fall schedule outside of the new Boxing and maybe the NHL. Versus will probably never show Nielsen ratings for the IPT, but you can kinda get a feeling for what it draws, most likely near a .30 seeing how they are placing it at a good time slot and wanted the World Open as well.

I heard somewhere the number .5 mentioned, if thats the case thats outstanding seeing how the NHL only averaged a .60 on ESPN before the strike, and it's top pool matches draw a .30 to a .50

So this really way better then anyone could have dreamed for and shows people outside the pool world are taking notice. this is very strong for an upstart pool tour on upstart sports channel in competition with ESPN. ESPN's pool averages .20, think about that, pool on a major cable network in a better channel location with way more viewers and households, and the IPT is doing better on OLN.

So that's really amazing and can only get better, dream rating's would be over a 1, as the ESPN BCA 9-ball championship finals on ESPN got around a .50, which is like 450,000 viewers.

So to sum it up I think the IPT is averaging around 250,000 plus viewers. this is not fudged or just cheerleading, Comcast and Versus is serious about making a run at ESPN and spending lots of money to do so, they would not put a loser show in prime time or purchase the North American and World opens rights if they didn't know and feel it would draw ratings and advertisers. And don't think about KT paying for that airtime, Comcast does not need money for that slot, they need good entertaining diverse sports content and ratings they feel the IPT will deliver.

The IPT probably sold it for a very attractive price and the combination of the new channel and the new IPT tour will help each other get what they are looking for.

IPT sure is receiving more air time than UPA or WPA here in the States.

I am sure that the US Open is going to be televised, right? Thirty years in the business and not only are they not on TV they are not even in the local paper.

So, why is nobody criticizing the US Open?

Why? The answer is simple. No one is afraid of the US Open. They pose absolutely no threat to anyone.

I hope the players are putting some money aside to purchase that IPO.

No, it couldn't. The Sigel-Jones match was originally aired on Fox Sports Net (FSN) as part of "The Best Damn Sports Show". After that, Trudeau bought a large number of time slots on local channels and ran the Sigel-Jones match as though it was an infomercial. This match has never been on OLN.

Supposedly, when the match was shown on FSN, it garnered a 25% ratings increase over the previous week's show. Of course, we have only the IPT's word on this. Unless someone here actually checked the ratings list of the two weeks in question.

This is the only relevant point as I see it. A network that has run IPT matches before, and has surely analyzed the ratings and marketed advertising during the timeslot, has decided they want to continue showing IPT matches. No matter what the IPT spin machine or the many naysayers have to say, this at least is a good sign.

As far as analyzing the effect IPT airtime has had on anyone's ratings, I certainly don't believe a word out of KT's mouth. Anyone with experience in infomercials knows exactly how to word things like that so they're just barely not technically lying. KT even has experience crossing that line and being convicted of fraud. Regardless, though, Versus is airing the show, and that has to be at least a good sign.

Andrew, I don't claim this as fact, but the evidence and my common sense tells me that KT and the IPT paid for all of the airtime. I don't believe that there was any advertising or sponsorship, except for Natural Cures and pushing the qualifiers, usually advertising is presold so there were no takers. Jim

100% wrong, KT could not afford all that prime time airtime it has been receiving, and the evidence shows that the rights are in the hands of OLN and Comcast and thats why they rerun the heck out of it. If KT had those time slots to do with what he pleased he would be putting full length Natural Cures infomercials which would make him way more money. And if KT did purchase all those slots he would have it full of Natural Cures commercials, have you seen the programs? lots of the same basic advertising OLN has on all it's programs.

Comcast needs good programming and ratings, they are not looking to sell prime time slots. Of course the deal was most likely cheap for Comcast, and with many deals of good programming you get paid for every showing, I bet KT sold it for a certain amount with unlimited showings and maybe multiple years which would be a great gamble on Comcast's part.

I am 99.99% sure OLN paid something and owns the rights to those tournaments for the US on cable.
