After seeing another post on here about a odd cue control ,,it reminded me of this.

This happened in a major tournament. I seen it,,but was not playing the match.

One guy locked the cue on the opponents ball and it(OB) was very close to the rail.

The guy put his cue tip on the table just under the edge of the cue,,,and flicked it upward,,hitting the cue on the way up and drove the OB into the rail.
The OB did hit the rail,,,barely,,,and they just went on from there as a good hit.

I have never seen anything like it before and not sure if it a legal hit or not. I would hope NOT,,,because it looks soooo stupid .lol

Not legal in BCA rules but I have seen our APA league operator here specifically coach this shot to players during matches.

Depends on the rulebook I suppose

I can't imagine that's legal in ANY rule book. World standardized rules say the stroke must be a forward motion (along the axis of the cue).

The same people who think that's legal prob jump balls by scooping it.

What about a straight-down masse? If the back end of the cue was lifted a little, the arc from the lifting of the tip would have a slight "forward" motion.

That's how I feel when I see somebody twisting their foot under themselves and sitting on it like some cheap contortionist, just to do a masse shot.

I think the most famously contorted leg being sat on for a masse shot is none other than Jimmy White's.

He made a beautiful masse to touch the brown from handcuffs behind the blue.

I am sure it could be found by searching Jimmy White masse on YouTube.
